Talk about perseverance:

Lightly recruited in high school
Drafted in the 44th round after junior year, returned for his senior season, and drafted in 33rd round
First minor league season ended with a .200 batting average with 1 HR in 150 ABs in short-season ball
Second minor league season: Extended spring training and then hit .247 with 3 HR in A ball
Worked as a substitute teacher in the offseason

Now at age 27 he has made an opening day MLB roster:

I love stories like this. Obviously the hard work paid off, but being in the right organization at the right time has a lot to do with it also.
