3rd and 2nd squeeze

High school just love to talk baseball.

Saw the 1st and 2nd bunt yesterday towards third such a tough play.  You have to read it as a third baseman but if they fake bunt they could steal third on you.  Third baseman fielded it and made the play at first.  Just tough cause you have to charge fast once ball bunted which he did to make the play at first.

Couple options for a bunt with a guy on 1st and 2nd base and you need the out at third.

1) Anchor- 1b playing in on the cut of the grass and charges, pitcher is responsible for the third base side. It's much easier for a LHP to make the throw to 3rd than it is for a RHP. Catcher any side in front of the plate. 3rd base stays in the area of 3b ready for a throw but also must read the bunt in case it gets past the pitcher and you need to take the out at 1. 2b covers first.

2) Wheel- basically the same thing but 1b and 3b crash while 2b covers first and SS covers third. Obviously this opens up the infield so you better be sure. This is a timing play where the SS is moving and does a couple glove taps to bait the runner on 2b back to 2nd and then the SS takes off. Once the SS has two or three steps on the baserunner the pitcher delivers the pitch. Leaving too early and a smart hitter will swing away if he isn't too scared of possible repercussions if he happens to fly out or something.
