So the kid has an issue with offspeed, Says he can see the spin and recognize the pitch but has a problem with placement and swinging at said pitch. I remember reading about an MLB player saying he imagined a circle/square between him and the pitcher that if the ball didn't pass through it it couldn't be a strike.  Can't remember who, does anyone have an idea?

That was Carlos Santana. The circle thing works but for a breaking ball it needs to be like half  a foot higher to be a strike than a fastball. So if the circle is for fastballs only swing if it is in the upper half if you see spin,it is going to be lower than you think.

The best is seeing a lot of breaking balls and only hit them when they are in the upper half of the zone. Also don't go so deep in the count and hit the fastball before he can throw the curve
