It's interesting to read the founder's reasons for discontinuing the program.

BOYS OF BASEBALL – NATIONAL TRAVEL TEAM

This e-mail is like none other I have crafted or shared since I created BOB-NTT, July 1, 1995. But, it is one that I am putting forth at this time…it is shared with you directly and personally because I care about you, and want you to hear this from me.

Effective September 1, 2008, the BOYS OF BASEBALL – NATIONAL TRAVEL TEAM no longer functionally exists…pursuant to current legal steps, the not-for profit, 501©(3) IRS tax-exempt status and publicly-supported organization is being dissolved.

Here’s how come:
*Expenses associated with today’s travel baseball have exceeded BOB-NTT capability.
*Today’s travel baseball is going in directions that BOB-NTT cannot enjoy or support.
*Way too much emphasis on winning at all costs…not anywhere close to BOB-NTT.
*Too much time, energy, and personal/domestic expense required from me.
*Need and want to devote more time, energy, and resources to my wife and family.

This decision is one that I have considered thoroughly…and, one that I feel good about without any remorse, hesitation, and question. So, the decision to end the BOB-NTT is one that I come to with a clear mind, a clean heart, and prayerful confidence that this is the appropriate direction that I choose for BOB-NTT…just like when I decided to start it.

The only constant in life is change.

Some people roll with it, others decide to go a different direction. The coach sounds like he poured his heart and energy into it for a good many years and no longer likes the landscape and has decided to move on. Good for him and he deserves a hearty thanks for his years of service.

I'd bet someone new will fill the vacant niche, if they haven't already.

He certainly has been around for a while, but it is difficult to run a program which is catering to bringing in the quality players he is looking to have on his teams and yet cover the expenses.

From his website: Boys of Baseball , it looks like they are from a wide area (FL, NY, CA, etc.) which he drawing from, some of the big names I see on his web site had played for other high profile teams in their area and did not need the additional exposure to get drafted or go to a high profile college, so the program may have footed the bill for those players to participate on their team, which in itself is a costly venture.
My son played for BOB-NTT in Cooperstown and a couple fo other times in FL.

HE is geniune when he states he did NOT go to these events for the winning but more for the experience.

All kids on this team only played for them once or twice a year and played on their teams at home the rest of the time.

Little Jr played with kids in Cooperstown his week from Tennesse, Maryland, Pennsylvania, NY, Florida, Alabama and Texas.

It was a great social experience that was ALWAYS fun. Cos also did a nice job of bringing a spiritual touch to the experience (w/o forcefeeding it).

This program will be greatly missed especially by those 12 year olds that go to Cooperstown (6 groups every summer).

We'll miss you Cos!
