Have a good friend who is a young, 2nd year head coach at Loyola of New Orleans. During the past few months I kept in touch with Doc. Have been able to talk and email while he evacuated his team, tried to keep his team together, help get players into other schools, deal with personal upheaval and evacuation from his home, and in the midst of this, support his wife who delivered their first child, while they were evacuated.
Loyola of New Orleans kicks off their 2006 season tomorrow night. What this coaching staff, its players and their families have encountered is something none of us can fathom.
Thought you might like to read the website story about this program, and this terrific young coach who is also a wonderful father and husband. I wish I could be in New Orleans to congratulate Doc and his players for their perisistence, diligence, patience and courage. Since I can't, maybe we could all let these players and coaches know their opening game is special to us all.

'You don't have to be a great player to play in the major leagues, you've got to be a good one every day.'
