Abuse of power or Normal

Are these fund raising things for the program?

Or community service credits?

I understand the fund raising time, school spirit time, and the community support time. My issue is these kids are asked to support a private/profit enterprise.
Building sheds for equipment on the field or maintenence of the field, or teaching at the camps is all part of being on a team.
At what point is this crossing the line. Or is it normal at the college level???

Neither our son nor any of his teammates were ever asked to do anything for anybody apart from the university itself. There were activities that the players were asked to participate in that were supportive of their program or the school in some way.

My personal take is that it is inappropriate if it has anything to do with a private, profit making enterprise. I don't see how it could be considered community service by any stretch of the imagination.

I heard a while back that some of the smaller schools that need money for their programs accept "donations" from private companies and in return have their players return the favor by doing "community service" work for them.
I would speak with the AD or report to the NCAA. I do not know if this is acceptable.

I don't know about the official rules but...our Baseball Booster group is planning a dinner/auction fund raiser. We were told that the boys could guard tables, check people in, but could absolutely not do any serving, etc. Said it was against NCAA rules.

One other question, does this for profit business allow the college players access to their facilities as a donation to the program?
