A few more thoughts here:
01-- some schools, by their own volition, do not meld acadmeic and atheltic monies
02-- Coach, I knew Maine had a "special situation" for the V Canadian players but did not know they considered them to be in state. Would be interested if they give them "federal" monies since they are not US residents.
03-- Here is a poser--- in situations where you say the academic $$ counts towrd the baseball money what IF a player comes to that school not as a baseball recruit but just a student and then decides to "walk on"--- as a walk on who makes the team as a non baseball scholartship recruit, does his money coutn against baseball ?
Think about that for a bit.
04 Regarding the Ivies it is my understanding that their monies are "financial based need" not academic grants. My nephew went to Dartmouth with a 4.0/1600 , national Merit Scholarship winner etc and got not a penny from the school becasue he was in the financial need situation. NY Mom cam give us a better interpretation I am sure.
TR,
can only answer #3. The academic money in question with the walk on does NOT count against the 11.7 because there is no "baseball scholarship". If he made the team as a walk on freshman and the coach gave him $1 of baseball money only then it would count against the 11.7.

Canadians cannot get federal money. We tried.
Matt CGraw is at maine and he gets a baseball scholarship and academic money only.
I believe they look at Canada as in state only for their players going to play at a Canadian school but not the other way around.

Coach Merc
I can see how schools can circumvent the rules with solid student athletes-- do not give them any baseball money but rather a boatload of academic and grant money

This is correct. Dartmouth 'awards' funding based on family financial need. Dartmouth also says the rest of the Ivy schools have the same financial aid policies.

Thanks much for the responses to my concerns. Obviously, the rules put certain more academic schools in a bind. We shall see what the future brings. Great thread. Hope it goes golden. Thanks again.
