I found this post today on a local baseball message board. The scout doesn't say anything new or earthshaking, but his comments bear repeating:
"I watched two high school scrimmages this last week in San Antonio. Madison/Clark and last night's game between Reagan/O'Connor. I am trying to get to as many teams as I can in San Antonio on days that I am in town. Some helpful hints for players.
* Play hard all the time, I was standing down the line with my brother at the Madison/Clark game, besides Coach Gezell and a few parents I know, no one had any idea a scout was there. Run everything out, show off your arm between innings, etc... you are always being evaluated. Most scouts will not make much of a presence at the games they attend.
* Last night was a bit different at the Reagan/O'Connor game. I talked with several parents and knew nearly every kid that was playing. Hard to keep a low profile in that situation. I will say that there was one player that really caught my attention last night. He is not a pro prospect at this time but can definitely play college baseball. Myself and another scout called three different colleges during the game and gave them this kids name.
* Play hard all the time and show your tools (arm, running speed etc...) every chance you get."
