Nothing to do with taboo.   Everything to do with the difference between revenue sports and non-revenue sports.  Some D1 P5s are even lucky to be in the black with revenue sports never mind non-revenue sports.   Football and basketball get the benefit of everything because they pay the bills.

Some kid thumping his chest in baseball, cross-country, swimming, tennis or soccer  isn't going to move the needle much, and with every step he takes (with his self-branding efforts) up the conference talent hierarchy the more difficult it becomes to realize the hype and win a starting job or position.   I've seen this playout a few times in the ACC and SEC before.   He'll be done by the Fall of his sophomore year.   He is fooling himself.

my 2021 didn't do it but for his Verbal and his NLI to Georgia Tech. Oh Happy Day!!

Agree 100%. It may benefit a kid occasionally as PF said, but more often than not it will bite a kid in the ass if he plays a non-revenue generating sport.

Not a fan of it but I'm convinced across the board in all sports it works.  I have watched a kid over the past year that posted every one of his offers.  He went from small D1 offers and NAIA offers to bigger D1 offers to small P5 offers to top 4 P5 offers.  The more offers he got the more his stock rose because his play on the field was not much higher than last year.  I'm convinced that everybody saw their competition making offers and figured there was something they were missing and didn't want to miss out.  Again, not a fan of it but it does work.

We've seen kids do this but I think most of their future teammates will likely have a negative opinion of them the day they walk in the door.  Most the boys I know didn't think highly of the kids who did it...not to mention coaches.  Baseball for the most part is a prove it on the field mindset.

Pre Covid only 31 football programs made money. So, the talk of football supports all other sports can end. Despite their success Clemson is not in the top twenty.
