During the Alabama broadcast tonight, they explained that a typical college regular season baseball game - even with a big name school like LSU, might only see about 35 dollars wagered.  Almost no money is bet on college baseball in the regular season.  The tipoff that started the suspicion was a large wager bet on Alabama versus LSU with LSU's top pitcher going that night.  I can understand how they could figure out who placed the bet, but how they figured out who that person was talking to has me concerned.  Did they read his lips? (doubtful).  Somehow they got access to that phone conversation.  I'll say this, I think if there is a link between the coach and the bettor, then he should have been fired.

I have been concerned about cell phone privacy for a long time.  I have been in the high tech industry my whole career and people have no idea how nefariously entities are exploiting them these days.  Privacy no longer exists.  For instance, you have a private conversation with someone (not on your cell phone), then all of a sudden you start getting push ads on social media and email relating to the content of the conversation.  I am not sure anymore that even if your cell phone power button is off that the phone is still not monitoring things.

Some good sense of humor in this thread however.  I think they should hire adbono as AD and he should name Pete Rose the next coach.

@ClevelandDad

No one but the former coach and who he spoke to knows the truth.  It will all come out eventually but the bet was on LSU winning the game. This happened either before or after Alabama's pitcher was pulled due to not feeling well. If anyone has heard differently that just goes to show there is a lot of speculation and guessing as to what occurred.

What we are forgetting is that there are about 35 young men who just lost their HC. That's sad.

I don't root for other SEC teams but you can't help but notice that the team made a huge statement this evening.

We are huge Orioles fans and watch their games on MASN if we are at home. It seems that at least 50% of the commercials deal with gambling, including opportunities to place bets during the game.  Occasionally the pre-game show will be hosted by guys talking about betting on the games.    Major League Baseball was so high and mighty about gambling....until they started getting advertising revenue from the casinos and on line betting services.   It's absurd that Pete Rose hasn't been put in the Hall of Fame at this point.       The sports world has opened itself wide open to revenue  from the gambling industry, and has compromised it's theoretical gambling integrity to the max.  It reminds me of the episode of Dallas where JR offered a woman money to leave town and get away from his brother Bobby. She agreed. Then he tried to drop the price and she says, "Hey ,what do you think I am?" JR replied, "Honey, we've established what you are, now we're just negotiating the price."

Have heard that joke attributable to both Churchill and George Bernard Shaw.  But love the Dallas reference!

I think ti is a bigger problem that most would think.  The online card games and other things start it then players get relaxed about it.  I would think every college coach would be talking to their players this week about it.  Reminding them what they can and can't do and to stay away from anything iffy.  I don't think college players realize what they can and can't do.

NCAA rules prohibit athletes, coaches and staff from betting on amateur, collegiate and professional sports in which the NCAA conducts a championship. For example, athletes cannot bet on NFL games even if state laws would legally allow them to if they weren't competing under NCAA rules.
