Randy Jackson has proven his worth as a judge and everyone else up to this point has turned out to be a good judge of talent. But what has Nicki Minaj done to be considered a judge? She a talentless hack who sells records to people who have no taste.

Keith Urban and Mariah Carey are accomplished singers so I can see why they are on the show. Still have to prove their worth but I can accept them until they prove they don't have it. Minaj does not deserve to be on there.
Not really a great start to the season but I swore I would give it some time. Not a lot of talent shown although the last girl was good. The previews for tomorrow show more catfighting between the two women and I think that could get old quick. I bet Keith Urban gets tired of that before the season is over. Three judges seems to work so much better and smoother. Actually Mariah probably irritates me more than Nicky M. with her ..dahling. Oh well, we shall see...
My take on the new judges the first two nights:

Keith Urban...Good Guy, Personable, Down to Earth.
Niki Minaj...She's different, but I Like Her.
Mariah...I'm not sure? I'm a little turned off by her Diva Attitude. We'll see how I feel in a few weeks.

My wife forced me to attend my first Country Music concert in 2008. Carrie Underwood opened for Keith Urban at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. Carrie was good, but Keith Urban blew her away on stage that night...he's the reason I allowed her to take me to other country gigs the past few years.

This past summer, my wife took our daughter to Vegas for her 18th birthday and they saw Niki Minaj in concert. As noted above, my other half loves country music, so you wouldn't think she'd like Niki...but she had a great time.

Of all the threads I have seen TR start or comment in, this one is the most surprising.

Me, too. In fact, I think I finally homed in on my mental image of TR...

TR was in the music industry for years. Apparently it's still in his blood.

And I have found out how to avoid the fighting **** with the judges...watch the show on the DVR.

Ditto

Got to say I think Keith Urban is going to be good at the judging thing...afraid the drama between the two Diva's are going to be an ongoing distraction. Talent so far...not so much.
I prefer it when they spend more time on the real talent. Not sure how they can live with themselves when they bring in seriously unstable people on who have no talent just to make fun of them. I know several people who have been to American Idol auditions who have talent but never made it out of the gate. When contestants are called back to appear before the judges they must assume that all their family and friends are correct and have hopes of making it, only to find out they were one of “those”.

I actually think that the performances were good last night, to each his own I suppose.

Seems to me, after watching for 12 seasons, that IDOL is becoming more like the other shows that have emerged over the past few seasons looking for talent. IDOL used to be about the beautiful young people, not so anymore.

Talent comes in all shapes and sizes but will these chosen few sell albums?

AI is probably my second or third choice for singing shows these days (The Voice is my first choice).  With that being said i still like the show when they get down to the top 20...I thought the girls were pretty good last night?  It's going to be tough picking the top 5 girls...IMO a few will going home that have a lot of talent.

I think it will swap back and forth between Candace and Cree depending on what type of songs they are required to sing. Angie could get in there if something in her wheelhouse comes up. Janelle and Amber are very good also but I feel they will have to hit on something very big to sway the voters. All five girls are much better than any of the guys this year!

Watched the first hour tonight which is the first time watching this season since the auditions and first encountered Nicki Minaj.  I have some observations I would like to share.

1.  The girls have some talent

2.  Based on what I've only seen tonight the girl who sang the Pretenders song on the piano should win.  She NAILED that song

3.  I would rather chew tinfoil with a mouthful of fillings than to listen to Nicki Minaj burp.

4.  Nicki Minaj has ruined American Idol.  I think AI choosing her to "judge" talent is their "Jumping the Shark" of Happy Days fame.

5.  She comes across as so condescending to the artists like they should be blessed to get comments from her.

6.  Anyone who thinks she has talent should lose their right to speak an opinion on anything

7.  I would rather take two city busses and shove them in my ears to keep from hearing her speak ever again.

8.  I really don't like Nicki Minaj and won't watch the show again as long as she's on there.
