I haven't seen that movies for decades. I remember it was a lot of fun.

I liked Fever Pitch with Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon. I can relate to his baseball obsession. Big Grin

Wikipedia: The story centers on the 2004 Boston Red Sox season, which culminated with the team's first Major League Baseball World Series victory in 86 years. This championship was entirely coincidental; the filming of the 2005 version was being done during the 2004 regular season, including scenes filmed at Fenway Park during actual games. As the Red Sox continued to progress through the playoffs, the Farrellys had to rewrite the script to include the historic moment.

I'll go with The Rookie. I thought the character development was fantastic, and there were a lot of aspects of that movie that, for me, made it the most complete baseball movie of all time.

*Jimmy Morris being told he was going to the bigs
*The aloof (and redeemed) father
*The commitment and sacrifice of minor league life
*High School baseball realities
*A small town hero

Great stuff!

Bull Durham

Delroy Lindo (played Satchel Paige in Soul of the Game) His performance really stuck with me and seemed to be an acurate interpretation of Paige.

Susan Sarandon

How is it that Kevin Costner only seems to do a decent job in sports movies? I had to laugh when his character in the odd Upside of Anger was an ex-ballplayer....like the sports mojo would help him out.
Inside the Academy:

The Women:

Other than the Ed *****y Award, Sarandon can't act, neither can Kim Basinger.

Geenna Davis was a backup to the almighty Fletch, and she can win the also-ran award.

The three ladies who performed well were Glenn Close in The Natural, and Lori Petty from "A League", and
Amy Madigan was terrific in Field of Dreams.

I vote for the magic of "The Natural", a 5'10 175 pound phenom who could hit a baseball 600 feet.

The Men:

Robert Redford played the role wonderfully, Best Actor with no competition. Close second is Dennis Quaid, brother of Cousin Eddie, "Eddie", famous for the boooooofay line in Vegas Vacation..." I'll have some a the yella, and don't get cheapon maay".

Costner played a better golfer in Tin Cup. As a quirky sidenote, Ray Casella was played by an actor from Highland HS in Ohio, our school district Cool

JEJ was dynamite in Field of Dreams...............as Terrence Mann.

1. The Natural
2. The Rookie
3. Field of Dreams
4. Pride of the Yankees
5. A League Of Their Own.

Light-hearted Category:

1. Major League
2. Bull Durham
3. Talent for the Game
4. Mr.Baseball
5. Angels in the Outfield
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093433/ "LONG GONE"

I like 'em all, but I'll bet not many of you have ever seen this one. It was filmed at Henley Field in Lakeland, Florida where I played my college baseball. My former coaches Hal Smeltzley and Chuck Anderson(both in the College HOF) were used as advisors for the movie. Starred William Peterson, Virginia Madsen, Dermott Mulrooney(Best Friend's Wedding) and Henry Gibson.

Filmed in 1987. If you can find this at Blockbuster or the library you won't be disappointed. Lot's of great lines and laughs
and Peterson certainly looks like a baseball player-unlike LaLoosh in Bull Durham.

Good Hunting!

As promised, The Winners Are (according to your votes)

Best Baseball Movie: Bull Durham
Best Actor: Kevin Costner
Best Actress: Susan Sarandon

we'll play again next year with categories like best scene, etc. I just watched Fever Pitch the other night and I love the "intervention" scene where Jimmy Fallon is bummed out so he watches the Buckner error over and over...

Blessings to all my web-family...
"Summer Catch" was on TV last night. It was an interesting movie about a guy playing in the Cape Cod summer league. Not my favorite baseball movie, but I was curious about the authenticity of the playing fields and perhaps the players. There seemed to be a lot of drinking for players who are barely of age. The whole thing seemed to be a little different than I would have imagined. Having never been there, I don't know.

Yea, the trainer was pretty funny. Kind of massaging the arm and snickering after Brian told him he was faking it. Later, the trainer fessed up and said that's what Brian told him.
