Like many on this board, my son has thrown in his bat.  It's been a great ride.  He has worked hard since little league, played on great teams with great coaches, dads and travel coaches.  We traveled far and wide as a family and enjoyed every minute of it. For many years I lived on this site, seeking advice from those who have been there. I supported my son 100% and it paid off.  He made first team all conference in his senior year of high school. I wouldn't change  any of it and in recognition he was offered a nice spot on a college team.

But, he declined the offer and elected to join the Marines.  I know it's the right fit for him at this time in his life and my wife and I fully support him.

All this to say:  Enjoy the moment with your son.

Too.Tall,

Congrats on your son's decision to protect our way of life.    My nephew has been in the Marines for three years after high school and he doing great.  He's told me he wants to make a career of it.   I sleep better at night knowing he is playing an important role in protecting our county (sorry, can't say what he does) Also, tell your son to get in the best shape of his life and load up on menthol cough drops at Basic Training...the constant yelling is going to make is throat sore and menthol cough drops become a "currency".

My son decided to join the Army as a Specialist after college graduation this year (May).   He is graduating from Basic Training next week if Hurricane Dorian doesn't spoil the celebration then he is off to Advanced Training in VA and Florida.   As you will learn, very few people are entering the armed forces and even fewer qualify once you get through their screening process, MEPS, homesickness, Basic Training, etc.....the Armed Forces have become very selective.    It is very tough at first, but once you get through the initial trainings it will mostly make sense.

Your son, my nephew and my son will be among the best of the best defending our country.  Best of luck to your son, and again Congrats on his decision.

Congrats to your son!  I thank him for his service!  My son's career came to an end last year after the many great memories from little league thru college.  I was surfing the net to find one parent's message that reminded me why we followed that journey.  although this is a hockey parent,  you can substitute just about any sport and believe it to be true.   For me and my family the baseball journey was all worth it!
