My son has been contacted by 4 agent/advisors. Even thought he's signed his NLI, two of the advisors (from states far away) continue to call. My son has developed a comfortable relationship with both and they'll talk for about 30 minutes each time they call, usually every other week.
They act like they enjoy talking to my son, seem knowledgeable, haven't asked for anything or even inquired if he wants to consider the draft over college.
Is there any harm/benefit in continuing these relationships? I don't know if we'll ever need an agent and I know that's where they're headed. I guess its their dime, but is my son under any obligation to choose at this point? Can these guys really help my son? Is there anything we should watch out for? I've read the posts about not taking anything from them or signing anything, but this seems a little strange since the draft is 7 months away!
This is new territory for us! Anyone who's been there have advice?

The best way to describe it, is that they are establishing a relationship with your son, just like the coaches did before he committed to their school.
They may feel that your son will be drafted and may need some "advice" down the road. There is no harm with him havng discussions. This is a personal decision, should be discussed with him and further information should be gathered by you regarding the use of an advisor/agent. I feel that at this age, your son should be worrying about the upcoming season and not be distracted by all this attention. If you feel uncomfortable, you might want to make a call to them yourself.
Read advice in teh other thread entitled "Agent".

Thanks, TPM.
I didn't read the "agent" thread thouroughly since agaent and advisor don't seem like the same thing. I went back and the link to HSBW's article about agent to advisor really helped.
I guess I'm still uncomfortable and need to learn more. I'll keep asking questions and reading, especially about the particular advisors who call our house.
KCB, I myself have been through the draft process twice (1987 & 1990). I didn't use an "advisor" in either case but wish I would have in the 1990 draft. I was drafted extremely high and it would have been beneficial to have used one. If your son is being actively recruited by agent/advisors YOU need to get involved and make sure they have your son's best interest's at heart. I had a very good relationship with my agent (after I signed) and I would recommend him to anyone. Agent's are great when they do what they are supposed to, unfortunately, many agents only look for the quick payday (signing bonus $$). Do as much research as you can on them and their company and DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING! Other than that they are harmless. I am on the other side of the fence now helping young athletes protect their bonuses (not getting it for them!!!) Feel free to contact me with any q's.
