OK.. Im a junior on the varsity team in NC and I havent got much playing time.. I kinda figured it would be like this since the best guy on the team plays 1st base which was my position on JV last year.. I know I can be an asset to the team so I was wondering how to approach the coach about switching to the outfield where I can possibly start... Ive played there before but he has never practiced me there.. the tough part is he stays on us about "team unity" and I dont want to sound like im only out there for me.. what do I do??

Sometimes your actions will speak louder than words---

HUSTLE all the time

All of a sudden "show up" in the outfield during outfield drills.

Do all the little things that will get you noticed

A short story--last fall we played in a tournament where you ran for the catcher automatically-- we had a youngster with us who was our dedicated runner--he was on the base before the umps needed to call him-- the umpires remarked to us about the kids hustle and alertness--if umpires can notice little things like that so will you coach-

Make your presence known at every practice and before every game in warm ups-- it cannot hurt your cause--only help you
EG - You've gotten some very good advice. Hustle, Hustle and Hustle some more. Also, how's your bat? All things equal at a position, the kid who can smack is going to win out. I agree with previous advice too, let your coach know you're willing to play wherever he needs you if it will help the team. Keep being supportive of your teammates until you get the chance you're working so hard for.
