A "HUGE" difference ... I do not know if that is necessarily the case anymore. Some of the camp/clinic events are "showcases" to a certain extent nowadays. I think there still may be a difference by definition but I would not say it is a huge difference that is for sure.

at a showcase there will/could be as many as 60 college coaches. (i have seen more than that, at an area code tryout.) you usually won't see that many at a camp/clinic. i think top 96 bills themselves as an instructional type event, but they didn't start that way.
i think it's a very big difference.

I agree with TRHit. I'm also aware there are some colleges that do have legitimate showcases but for the most part the big shift has been the "name change" on college camps, renaming them showcase/camps. This is a marketing strategy attempting to capture some of the money being spent on showcases. Put it to the "duck test". If it looks like a camp, quacks like a camp, and swims like a camp --- it must be a camp!
College camps and showcases are dependent on revenue for their survival and they find themselves vying for the same dollar. As the economy tightens and those "exposure dollars" shrink, look for that competition to increase and marketing strategies to change.

Call them what you will, but camps oftentimes serve to "showcase" talented players' skills. My son attended several "camps" where specific attention and interest was given either to him or to other "campers" by the recruiting coordinator and other coaches. If you are a talented "camper," decision-makers will definitely notice the skills that you "showcase."
There's a big difference between a PG showcase and a college's showcase. At a PG event a lot of competing colleges will attend. A local Big East program runs a showcase. They invite other programs. They invite lower level programs that won't be making offers to players from their showcase. The value is great for the kid who wants to play locally and finds the A10 or D2 or D3 to be a viable option. For a kid who is looking for an equal or better program it's a one shot deal.
I agree with some of this as well. I think there is a difference between a showcase and a "clinic/camp" ... I think there is also a big difference between a clinic, a camp and a showcase for that matter. NCAA has some restrictions on each along with where they can be hosted (D1 facilities, etc).
However, I don't think you can fit every "showcase" event in to one category ... 90% of "showcases" aren't anywhere close to what a PG showcase is ... so I would be apprehensive to plug all showcases as events with huge scouting events.
We run "clinics" across the country and they are named such because we have guaranteed scouts attending that provide instruction.

Each could also be seen different with respect to a "recruiting service" and a "recruiting tool" ... PG is a showcase recruiting service (the best out right now, clearly) and programs like Silver Spikes are recruiting tools for coaches/scouts and players. Both have advantages for sure.
