Dude I have never had a beef w/ rotation.....EVERYONE rotates to hit....when rotation begins is my beef w/ you.
I shouldn't say BEGIN...OCCUR is a better word
Still waiting for your approach
Griffey's hands follow the shoulders as they load.......It's called connection......
So they don't go back even slightly?....
Still waiting for your approach

Most (practically all) amateur hitters don't hit with rotation....All MLB hitters do......
Still waiting for your approach Bluedog...
Yes they do, but they aren't loading.....The load takes place in the shoulders....quote:So they don't go back even slightly?....
So how do the shoulders load?
I cannot believe I asked you that>.....
My approach at the plate is always the same.....No matter the count, the pitcher or the situation....
Recognize the location and speed of the pitch and if it's hittable, hit it with the intent to clear the fence......

quote:I cannot believe I asked you that>.....
Neither can I.....I'll leave it alone.....
Well then here is an easy one......what is your approach w/ man on second and no outs?
Never a change in my approach at the plate.......My shirt says home run every time.......
check your PM Bluedog
What would Bonds do?
Bluedog...
A general approach most often taken is to look to drive the ball to the middle of the field and react in....If the approach is middle of the field it should help you stay on offspeed pitches left up (and by up I mean thigh to belt high)....Middle of the field approach simply helps you stay on and handle a variety of pitches.......man on second w/ no one out.....score will dictate....you are either going to try and move him or score him.....YOUR HIGH SCHOOL COACH SHOULD LET YOU KNOW.....YOU ARE STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL, CORRECT?

you should respect your elders Bluedog...
So if someone pitches you backwards, what did they do Bluedog?
What about book pitching you?
You seem to know alot about hitting and then proved you know nothing.....
What about book pitching you?
You seem to know alot about hitting and then proved you know nothing.....
Bluedog is either typing or thinking and I don't know which is worse.
LOW, backwards with offspeed breaking stuff then fastballs.....Pitch me by the book.....My strengths and weaknesses.......The book on me....
Situational hitting....Hitting up the middle, opposite field......Advancing runners, laying down the bunt.....What's the count?..How many outs?..Where are the runners?
I think it's all nonsense......
Situational hitting....Hitting up the middle, opposite field......Advancing runners, laying down the bunt.....What's the count?..How many outs?..Where are the runners?
I think it's all nonsense......
LOW, your approach is like all the rest......Let the pitcher and/or the situation dictate....Give the hitter a bunch of signals, hope he gets them right and then hope he can execute what you called.......You got the hitter doing alot of thinking.......
The hitter should not be thinking in the batter's box......Not about anything, at all.....Clear the mind and hit with the intent to hit it out......Bonds does this every at bat......Recognize the pitch and if it's hittable, hit it......

Correct on Backwards....soft early, hard late. Or to be more specific, offspeed in FB counts and FB in offspeed counts...
Book pitching however is Hard in (generally early) and soft away (generally late)....
Not really nonsense.....
Book pitching however is Hard in (generally early) and soft away (generally late)....
Not really nonsense.....
Well it's not really all nonsense....I agree in one aspect...I think HS and college guys bunt (sac) way too much...but then again you cannot fault a coach for trying to create runs if his team is not very talented and cannot score runs at will by driving the ball....
Situational hitting is very important.....man on third less than two outs...infield in....my hitter gets impatient and gashes at something down and away(would have been a called strike) and ends up rolling over it and hitting a ground ball at someone....he has to look for something to drive.......His APPROACH was bad in my opinion....You can't help but agree...correct?
Pitcher throws seven out of eight pitches a strike and my guy gashes at a border line 3-1 pitch and fouls it off / pops it up or misses it.......Bad Approach again.....would you agree?
You gotta have an approach....and generally that approach will be to hit the heck out of it to the middle of the field or gap to gap if you will....
Going up there w/ an approach that may not help us score runs is a definate problem and THAT I feel is very much a bunch of nonsense....

If it can't help us win, don't do it or say it.
LOW, practically every pitcher has a low and away for an out pitch......Because hitters struggle with that location......It's the first location I teach a hitter how to hit......It's a pitch they will see alot......Most hitters look for it with two strikes and can't hit it when they get it.......I consider it a very hittable pitch and one I expect to be hit......
I'd like to see you take that selfish approach to big league or professional team. You just might get your rear kicked....
"i'm sorry i didn't move the runner to help us score that important run Mr. Clemons but I was trying to hit the ball out of the ballpark and ended up hitting a ground ball at the third baseman."
Remember that guy can protect you.....

Bluedog you are missing the point all together..the location was just an example....and was a small, very small piece of the example.....
I teach hit the first hittable pitch....We don't wait for a mistake pitch.....The pitcher does not dictate to us......And, the situation doesn't either......We expect to drive every pitch we hit.....Our intent is for every swing to be a homerun....

Not that you need support, but you are dead on.
Takes at least 10 of "them" to equal one of us.....and they still lose.
At least two frames of rotation before touch down.
Hey LOW....see that rotation push Pujols foot down?
Don't care where you work or where you played or what you do. What you suggest doesn't stand up to video of mlb players.
Enough? How about this guy?
Again, 2-3 frames of rotation before toe touch.
Hate that video LOW?

Hi mom!
I expect my hitters to hit.....Not to dribble ground balls.......We consider any ground ball a failure......We work very hard on posture and connection.....
I send a coach a hitter who expects to get a hit......That is what I do......I'm not a coach, I'm a hitting guy.......My hitters know to think about absolutely nothing in the box.....Nothing......Just drive the ball hard......

Oh, and about getting my rear kicked......I've been around alot tougher situations than a MLB clubhouse......Still in one piece.....
And, Bonds doesn't seem to move too many runners over unless they move to home plate......

Bluedog,
Why are you saying LOW said anything about hitting against stiff lead leg anyway. Go back to How Will You Teach Hitting(Thread #1
page 22)
Baseballdad1228 said something about hitting against stiff front leg and you said nothing in rebuttal....puzzling that you are not very consistent in youraccusations/evaluations. Guess this is where you got this... BTW, I'm not saying anything negative about BaseballDad1228 either because he is/was proven hitter in professional ranks and also a part of the establishment

Anytime you bring up Bonds in a hitting discussion a part of me says, "yeah but that's
Bonds, (Barry Bonds)" In other words, "Let's keep the discussion to mere mortals so we can teach guys we work with how to hit."
I did hear Mickey Mantle say he swung for a HR every single time he went up there.
Still I'm with LOW on that: I want a guy to get a job done (situationally)... unless his name is Bonds, Mantle, Ruth.

Just semantics anyway about stiff/rigid/firm front leg. It's all the same even though I prefer the term rigid for soothsayers like you who are searching for ways to dismantle another's credibility
Think all of us mean the same thing about front/lead leg in hitting as in hitting against.
Know what I mean Blue??

Trojan, if your intent is to hit a homerun and you mis-hit it, the result can still be very good......As long as your technique is sound.....
Wow. This has been interesting. Just a few thoughts from a nuetral party. Bluedog, I think it would be interesting to look at players as they take pitches. All put their front foot down but many do not rotate yet because they have not committed to the swing. I will have to watch some video of this myself to get a better look. I think it is also important for people to understand what their role is in baseball. David Eckstein with the Cardinals is a solid hitter, but would not be around long if he tried to hit homeruns on every pitch. All swings carry components of both types of swings. Many players including Pujols rotate more on the inside pitches and less on the outside. The main thing that many have pointed out before is that I have seen terrible swings by great hitters and beautiful swings by people that can't hit a lick. We have to be careful what we fall in love with. Lastly, "Situational hitting....Hitting up the middle, opposite field......Advancing runners, laying down the bunt.....What's the count?..How many outs?..Where are the runners?" to me, this is what BASEBALL is all about; if it is non-sense, then we are talking about hitting only in a cage or a homerun derby.
Infopimp, many, here, can learn from you.......
Let's hear some dialogue on rotation in the swing......I look forward to what you have to say......You know, as well as I do, that rotation gets a bad rap on message boards overall.....Too much misinformtion being passed around.....Let's set the record straight.....

hsballcoach, nice post.....
My job is to teach hitters how to hit......
Eckstein doesn't get base hits by not swinging hard.....His homerun just may be a line drive over the infield and under the outfield.....But, when he hits this, his intent is to hit for the fence.....If he catches it real solid, it just may keep going......Truth is, if he didn't swing for the fence, Eckstein would be washed out.....
And, Pujols does rotate on every pitch, inside or outside.....MLB hitters don't turn rotation on, then turn it off.....Hitting outside pitches the opposite way has to do with bat angle, not lack of rotation....

Here it is again worded a little different Bluedog and I "THE SHEPSTER" do hereby give you permission to reproduce, publish, make money, or use these two statements in any fashion you wish to in instruction, teaching, or other message boards

Saw a good un today.
6'4"/225 HS first baseman with bloodlines to boot. Hits a ton! Thought I was watching Robert Redford in the Natural for a second-LOL
Not heavily scouted either. OFP would be great if he could run a little more but who cares if he can hit it thru the tops of the light poles.
Read your post on UT trip. Will not ask for any info because of confidentiality policies so you won't have to worry about that sir.
Thanks for compliment on other thread too bro.
Really gives me a reason to keep comimg back here when professionals like yourself recognize a scout's ability and give him credit for it as you have done for me. Just an associate and intrinsic rewards keep me going knowing that my time isn't being wasted.
I would also like to publicly thank you for that sir and will pray that the draft falls directly in line for this year and our God will bless you with a tassle of MLB selections.
Will respect confidentiality so nobody PM me looking for names and so forth because ya ain't gonna get 'em
Waiting for the Bluedog and info**** to arrive.
Can't even bring myself to type it because it doesn't match him. I liked Linear better. LOL

Inquiring scouts, coaches, parents would like to know.
Maybe we can bribe swing. Swing? How much will it take to get Dog's ID? LOL
No pun just fun brothers. All in an attempt to prevent boredom. Would like to see others jump in tonight. Makes it interesting, for sure.

LOW, I am not a member of organized baseball as you know it.....I have no affiliation with any team or organization at any level of baseball.....I don't talk hitting with most coaches, as we mostly have nothing in common to talk about.....I teach only individual players......I do not teach groups for various reasons, mostly because I consider it a waste of my time......I do charge, but do not need the money.....If a kid can't afford to pay, I still work with them.......No bad attitudes, caps turned around, or bad work habits.....My students understand they must work hard and want to reach their potential.....I only work with players who are dissatisfied with their current instruction or coach and have been referred to me.....
That's great blue
Anyone you have worked that I might know Blue?
Blue,
Question you can probably answer sir.
Do you know or have known gentleman in TENN who developed Perfect Swing videos and instruction back in early 90s. I'm being serious now.
I have studied those at great length and he also emphasized the middle/center as being "KEY".
You can use those statements up a few posts too if it will help your students.

I will not "rat out Doggy". I am for all that work with kids and I bet he is a good coach. A good coach understands all this and choses what works within the framework of the time and ability of the players.
My instinct sayd he can do that and make them better. Anybody that claims to make them all great must be coaching kids with less to do than me.
TIP: He does live in a large state that is home to the King Ranch

Swingbuster, our Quarter Horses have blood lines that go back to the King Ranch. My Wife and I have a Quarter Horse Business that is no longer a business. Now, they are pets. EXPENSIVE PETS. We are now down to 3 quarter horses when we used to run 15 out to pasture every morning.
Kinda back to the topic. I don't want to hijack this thread and so, I'm going to start a new thread about the purpose of the site and posters. It will be up in a minute.

I Honestly didn't mean for you to Swing and believe Bluedog holds the keys and what he teaches really can't be bought but must be earned in mechanics and baseball related movements in DNA motion analysis.
Liked what you said last night Blue about willingness to work with those with their hats on right who are willing to pay the price and do what is necessary to get what you have and the fact that you don't turn any away because of situation, because of finances. That was "special" and know you really care for those who are deserving even though they may not be material wealthy.
Blue, I've always recognized this about you really but just want what you have. Asked you a question of sincere nature last night that you never replied to that I felt was reasonable.

HOLY SCRAP! what the heck is going on on this board... one for anyone talking about linear vs. rotational... there are studies done on this all the time by the "biomechanic" people.. who give the knowledge to those who request it... and it is true that over 95% of players in the Hall of Fame and over 95% of players in todays game are ROTATIONAL. There are very few (Ichiro) who are linear (back to front).
This is not me this is studies that are out there. Linear hitters load to the back and swing around the "pole" upright or out in front of their axis of rotation... Rotational hitters rotate just behind there axis of rotation that they actually set up in their stride - or counter rotation phase of swing.
Linear hitters typically are the squish the bug types, swing level types, swing down for backspin, keep level shoulders, try and keep barrell of bat above hands, hit to contact.. etc...
rotational hitters (5% of high schoolers, 95% of major Leaguers) rotate around an imaginary axis (actually slightly behind it - because they tend to "sit" on back leg slightly and have a good body lean - which helps with the whole hands inside the baseball thing). Front elbow works up (unless of course pitch is high scross the letters then your elbow would flatten out to match planes.
ooops.. i'm going off on a tangent...

Keep it coming bro cause SHep likes those types of tangents. Seems like that's the only time learning actually occurs.

And 2:30 here in FL as well much earlier in California...not central time zone in MO IMHO.
Good Night!
