I had to Google is Outkick a satire site before posting this article. Can you believe an SEC coach whined about being placed in a bracket with their first opponent being an unfamiliar Ivy League team?

LOL!  Well someone is paying attention to them.  Was looking at the Portal today and see that Penn grads (assuming they are all grad transfers) headed to: Virginia, Texas, Duke, Va Tech, Texas A&M and Georgia.

What link do you use to go to see that?  The NCAA site is perplexing.... Thank you in advance for the assist

Penn probably could have beaten Penn State. They didn’t play. Penn opened their season straight out of the field house with three competitive, close losses to South Carolina. They lost by a run twice and a three run loss. Auburn should have been able to beat Penn. But they shouldn’t have been surprised by facing a competitive team.

There are 305 D1 baseball teams each playing a 50+ game schedule. There aren't enough hours in the day for anybody to be familiar with them all. Penn was 116 in RPI so not even the computer expected them to win.

There are 64 tournament teams, most of which are obvious. The point is that you can't be on a selection committee when you don't know anything about an entire region let alone one of the teams who was selected. Penn was also the favorite in the Ivy so it shouldn't have been a surprise.

That sounds like an excuse.  There is no excuse for "getting" to the post season and being surprised.  That is on the coaching staff.  Last week, it took me less than 1 minute to google Penn's schedule and reach the same conclusion that @RJM did.....Penn played South Carolina tough.   South Carolina is in the same conference as Auburn.   Maybe the Auburn Coach could have spent another 1 minute looking at the details of each of the Penn/South Carolina 3 games played in February.  That would have taken a total of 4 minutes doing his job, not hours.

The fact that Auburn got in, hosted a regional and had every advantage because their AD chaired the selection committee are separate issues.

From my viewpoint, Auburn baseball has more than enough egg on their face to share.

JMO.

Well yes of course the coaching staff should have prepared for their opponents. The Auburn regional had teams that were 19, 21, 62, and 116 in RPI. I don't see any reason for any of those teams to complain.

I was referring to the idea that every member of the selection committee should be familiar with every D1 team. They just aren't and never will be. That's the point of having a committee with representation from all over the country, so different members can provide input on the teams they're familiar with. The committee has a member from the northeast (Patriot League).
