Auburn Trees

Saw this in our local paper this morning. Just awful!

it is really tragic.....its hard to imagine anyone who would do that...and to understand what Tooomers means to Auburn fans and alumni...

Toomers was the first place my dad (AU '46)took me to when I visited Auburn for the first time...

they have made an arrest....but its highly likely the trees will be lost...

“Spike 80 is an herbicide that is usually used for total vegetation control,” said Stephen Enloe, an assistant professor of agronomy and soil at Auburn. “It's very good at what it does and that is kill all plants. This herbicide is really active on plants that are actively growing.”

As spring approaches the trees will begin to take up more of the herbicide, causing leaves to yellow and then fall off. This “death cycle” could repeat itself several times, Enloe said while choking back tears.

What kind of sicko murders trees?

I read this story in the Atlanta papertoday. The guy who did this is an idiot! Bama was quick to point out that he wasn't a graduate, did not hold season tickets, and wasn't a booster. Sometimes the most rabid fans of a school don't really have any association with it.

I saw a report this morning that the alleged perp is a former Alabama State Trooper. He was recorded stating that he basically was proud of killing the trees.

And I also think that there are nut cases sprinkled all over every region of our great country. No single region has a lock on them.

I don't know how long it will take for this particular herbicide to breakdown and become inert, but when it does the Auburn community should replant trees in the same spot as where the trees were lost.

Another chapter in the story will have been established for future generations. The spirit will survive and flourish.


And regarding the ignorant statement made above...it's just that. Ignorant. What to do? Ignore it. That is all that it deserves.

Ive lived in a number of states since I left my home state of Alabama.......ignorance, ill manners, hatred and rude behavior abound everywhere and is not limited to one region....

I agree woody. Maybe they can build some sort of memorial from the wood of these trees that could last a long time.

Morons and idiots are dispersed pretty evenly throughout the country.

If Alabama was any kind of school, they would donate new trees to Auburn
