High School Top 25: May 11

Baseball America

Seven teams depart from the rankings this week

May 11, 2010

Playoffs always seem to shake up rankings, but this week's poll saw some unprecedented changes. Seven teams dropped out of the Baseball America/National High School Baseball Coaches Association Top 25, three of which were in the top five spots. Klein High of Spring, Texas jumped from No. 9 to the top spot after a bi-district win in the Texas state tournament.

Colleyville Heritage High (Colleyville, Texas) fell victim to a historic upset in the bi-district round, getting swept by Flower Mound's Marcus High and dropping the Panthers from No. 2. After starting their season 18-0, Sarasota (Fla.) High lost four out of five to end the regular season. The Sailors then lost in their district championship game and had to face the defending 6-A champs in Alonso High of Tampa in the region quaterfinals. Alonso ended the Sailors season with a 5-1 win.

Bishop Amat of La Puente, Calif. made the biggest jump of any team, going from No. 24 to No. 2, thanks to a very strong non-district schedule and the collapse of other teams in the poll. Also making a big jump was Rockwall-Heath High of Heath, Texas. The Hawks' perfect season is still in tact after they swept Centennial High of Frisco, Texas in the bi-district round.

The staffs of Baseball America and the NHSBCA compile the Top 25 rankings. In-season polls will be conducted every two weeks and released every other Tuesday throughout the season. Records indicated are as of May 9 and do not include ties.
