I'm always intrigued by stories of people who are rumored to have been good enough ballplayers to have a shot at the bigs but chose another path, and great success to boot.
Some that come to mind:

George Thorogood (rock/blues guitarist)
Nelly (rap/hip-hop artist)
Chuck Connors (actor)
Charlie Pride (singer)
Bob Eubanks (The Dating Game host)

Any others????

Top atheletes are often good at many sports ...

I've played pickup basketball for years with a group of local Dads, a couple were pro-level atheletes in other sports but were awesome basketball players:

- Vince Ferragamo: Rams QB ... though going for a break-away down court when Vince is guarding you is a "bad idea". No such thing as an easy basket in Vinnie's game. Vince could rain down 3's all night long and made great outlet passes.

- Dusty Dvorak: '80 '84 Olympic volleyball team and pro-beach volleyball player. Don't let him anywhere near the basket because he could jump out of the building ... and he could break you down from the perimeter. His jump was not only high, it was explosively quick ... He could put up a jump-hook, miss, go up a second time for his own rebound and put it back in while you were still gathering yourself for your first jump.
