He's out, provided the defensive player has not caught a fly or line drive or tagged the base for the third out.

But if he failed to yield, he'd also be out. By yielding he has the chance of getting back safely.

Careful on this one. It'd be hard, but it is possible that the status of the ball would have already been established as fair when this occurs, in which case the runner would be out.
