Polls for all divisions including NAIA and JUCO:

I know, I know, pre-season polls are meaningless yada yada but it does at least give us a chance to talk about baseball.

I am a person who enjoys this type of thing. Not because I'd like to see who is #1, but I like to see new teams to the list. A few years ago, one would be surprised to see East Carolina, Coastal Carolina and Winthrop on the list. Even schools like Ohio St. and Minnesota would be surprising. Now, these schools are widely considered national quality teams, and poised to make a CWS annually. But seeing teams like Middle Tennessee St., Florida Gulf Coast and Dallas Baptist being listed in the top 40 is new to me. I think it's very cool to watch teams rise into a somewhat elite status and build their program.

JH, I agree with you 100%. It's great seeing parity among teams nowadays, i.e. SMU!

It does make one wonder why/how Middle Tenn State is on the list. They have that Brentz kid who was selected recently as a preseason All American as a DH. The kid dropped 28 bombs last season and also pitched! But other than 1 kid it makes me curious what other factors were considered on being selected?

I was surprised by Ohio State and Middle Tennessee State as well.

Perhaps there is a problem with your browser. Everytime I click on the posted link it works fine. I assume it worked ok for YGD and JH as well.

No, it works. Not a fan of 'small ball'. How can Texas be ranked no.1, if they can't hit?

I'm not sure they can't hit, they hit pretty well in the tournament last year. A major factor in formulating Texas' offense, is their home park, where they play a great majority of their games. Disch-Falk field may be the single best pitchers park in America. Long fences, deep deep gaps, prevailing winds crossing from L to R and slightly in, field turf. Not a hitter friendly park, to say the least.
I see that UCLA is again on the list. They have underperformed for the past two years and I wonder how long this will continue before something happens with the coach. In this same vein I am amazed that USC and Cal coaches still have jobs.

These are three premier programs that should be in the hunt every year.

What do you all think of DII baseball, in general? The schools in the poll are from all over the country. I'm surprised there are three PSAC schools in the top 40 and one in 'the rest'.

Thanks for posting this poll. If I would have realized it, I would have posted it as well. Here is the D3 poll.

To answer your question, I think very highly of D2 baseball. itsinthegame's son was a D2 all-american and is now climbing the pro ranks. Many of the teams in this poll have outstanding teams year in and year out.
I've never been a big fan of the Collegiate Baseball polls -- teams can jump too much or drop too far in the space of a week and then there are things like not ranking a school that didn't report (hey, CB, go do your homework and find something out). But for discussion purposes in the dead of winter, I love them. Anything that gets everybody looking ahead to the season is a good thing. Already we've got all the folks on this board in various parts of the country weighing in with their expertise. Sure, these polls are meaningless, but they do get the debate going. Who's ranked too high or too low? Who got left out? And in baseball, the preseason No. 1 rarely is the last team standing at the end of the season because so much can happen over 60-some games.

Give TR a break, he hasn't seen the sun in a month. They can't play ball in the snow and we start in 13 days.
Fullerton ranked 4th in one poll, third in the other.
65 degrees and bright sunny skies today.
I know some will think I am just being a homer but UNC is ranked too low at #13. After watching them this fall I think they have a chance to be better than last season. We will see.

Virginia Tech - Going to be very good.
Boston College - Going to be very good.

I really like Virginia they are so talented.

Coastal Carolina has sustained itself as a top fight program and its only a matter of time before they reach a CWS. East Carolina is very good as well.

Before anyone says what about the West Coast etc I will leave that up to those that know more than me. There is no doubt that there are many outstanding programs outside my area. Polls are fun for discussion. But we all know once the season starts there will many surprises and thats a big part of the fun.

Coach May - I think you are right about UNC. Thanks for the shout out to Coastal but I think they realize their task is bigger than words. They need to prove things on the field and I believe they know it.

For all those who love college baseball, Coastal is playing UC Irvine in an early season tournamnet in Myrtle Beach - east vs. west. NC State is also in the tournament. It don't get any better than that imho.
