What is the "rule" pertaining to baseball scholarships at diff. schools? From what I've seen it's never a full ride, but mostly some money based on academic performance. I've heard some parents who think their child will get a full ride in baseball, like a basketball star would. That's not the case is it?

The short answer is there is a lot of demand for very few college baseball slots at the D1 & D2 level where athletic scholarships are offered. If "those parents" heard that full rides in baseball are like basketball then they haven't spent anytime on this board. Different schools offer different scholarship amounts based on talent and need. If you click "find" on the title bar, you can search this subject in detail to learn more. You'll quickly learn that your question is not an easy one to answer in one paragraph.
The rule for D1 baseball for a fully funded program is 11.7 Scholarships are available each year, with a minimum award of 25%. With 30+ players on a roster you can see that the math here is difficult. D2 Colleges that are fully funded have 9 Scholarships to award.

My sons experience at a D2 was that the coach pieced together every dollar he could from all sources to provide my son with the most attractive offer he could.

That included a minimal amount of academic money. Point being, the coach put all the resources he could together and presented the offer.
NY Times 2008:
"Expectations lose to reality in sports scholarships"

"¶The lowest overall average scholarship total was in men’s riflery ($3,608), and the lowest for women was in bowling ($4,899). Baseball was the second-lowest men’s sport ($5,806)."

This article was published March 2008. Since then, the NCAA mandated a minimum 25% award, as noted by Floridafan.
