Baseball "Seam" necklace

My son's Valley League team made these things all summer, but they were for their wrists. They took razor blades, and very carefully cut on each side of the seams all the way around to end up with the seams, and the leather/whatever inside the seams.

It's amazing how these things take off. My son's Southern Collegiate League team made them this summer, too! I think they're very cool. I wonder where the idea started?

Does anyone have a picture of these seam necklaces? I don't think I've ever seen them before. Thanks.

We saw this for the first time 3 years ago from the Mississippi Stars Team in Millington Tenn. they cut both sides of the seams off a baseball (or softball for the girls)Made one cut so the seam was one long strand. Then they soacked the seams in water and then continually twisted them for a few hours re-tightening as they went. For a smaller wrist they unwrapped a few of the seams and used the laces to tie it together. For a necklace they added some twine or glove leather. Now I see them sold all over...This was a great bonding between teams...

I made a key ring out of one. The necklace wasn't me, and it clashed with the shock collar I got from the wife for xmas.

Son made his years ago, I had never seen anything like it, wore it for years. He made it from a HR ball.

Darn, wish I had known the idea would take off!

Thanks for the photo. I had never heard OR seen one before. We must be behind the times up here!

Everybody thinks these are really "cool", but does anybody know how to make them? I have already "skinned" the seam (plus a little) off of the baseball with an exacto knife, but it doesn't "twist" right. Do you have to SOAK it in something to make it softer?

Try pulling on it to stretch it out.

Also, son wore a PLAIN rubber band on his wrist (still does) since he was little, one of those plain heavy duty ones. Now there come in all colors, slogans, etc.

we ordered custom necklaces from wearthegame.com. i sent them the artwork from our tshirts and they shipped them to me in about 3 weeks. our cost for 150 ended up being $7.30 each and we're selling them for $15. The boys love them. We made our own a few years ago and to get them to twist I soaked them, twisted them tight(no space between curls) and then clipped the ends with a clothes pin until it dried. sometimes we had to repeat that process a few times to get it just right.

If someone could give exact step-by-step instructions, that would be cool. I don't understand the bits and pieces. Thanks
