Hi, I recently have found a bat speed program but I am a bit weary of using it. It calls for 15 Swings with a heavy bat(20% over game bat), 15 swings with a light bat(20% under) and 15 swings with normal game bat. It calls to repeat this twice and to do this hitting workout 3x a week. It claims that you can see results in 6 weeks. Has anyone had experience with this or did something similar and how did it go? Thank you 👍

Thank You,

Underload/overload training can be effective when done properly.  There is a ton of info available via google search, including the science behind the theory.  That said, it is generally not recommended for young players who are still not near physical maturation (not sure how close you may be as a 2025).  Just a general strength program is the preference.  And, even then, being careful to stick with age appropriate training is important.

I do think regular swings with a slightly heavier bat can be part of that general strength program, along with other rotational core work, leg work and some of the tedious hand/forearm strengthening exercises.  But be careful not to swing a bat that is heavier to the point where it changes your swing mechanics.

My son has done an overload/underload bat speed program that he actually got from his pitching coach, a Tom House guy. It is not too much different from the various programs. He does make my son, a left hitter, do the same routine right handed to balance himself out. As result, my son has actually developed a pretty decent RH swing.

My son worked out at a facility where many major leaguers trained in the off season.  One day in the cage next to him was a Dodger player working out.  He was doing tee work with 2 1lb donuts on his bat.  That's something like a 64 oz bat.  He swung it like it was a toothpick.  The guy was a beast.  I'd say there is definitely a place for a weighted bat but I'll echo Cabbage that you need to be physically mature and you don't want it to alter the swing mechanics.
