Does anyone have a recommendation on one of these? My son took a fastball off the top of his foot. At best it is a bad bruise. The ortho thinks it is a fracture and is sending him to a specialist. Either way, I'd like to see if there is something that he'd be comfortable with while it fully heals.
I asked RipkenFanSon. He uses and recommends the Evoshield. He fouled a ball off his foot in an NCAA tourney game. (Almost repeated that on two other foul balls that AB). It swelled and caused him to miss the next game. It was a big bruise as you mentioned. His coach didn't give him a choice..."you're wearing one of these from now on."
Son always has a couple in his baseball bag and continues to wear it even after he graduated from college. He's a speed guy and it doesn't seem to affect his HTF time. He'll hand it off to his first base coach once he reaches first.
Good choice, relatively inexpensive in comparison to other baseball equipment. It usually takes an injury before they consider wearing protection (silly macho BS imo). If your kid is like mine where a necklace can throw off his timing, I would advise the kid to wear the gear when practicing hitting to get used to it so it does not become a distraction in the box.
Thanks guys. I'll check it out. My wife and I joke about him setting a record for being hit by pitches. This time it is going to cost him practice and game reps
I bet the type of BP he gets helps him get used to it.
LMAO! Good one. Years ago I was throwing BP to him and he finally hit one over the fence. Later in the day I was telling my friend/asst coach about it and he responded “I don’t know which is more impressive, the homer or you throwing a strike”
