Thanks, Americas. I would assume that he is referring to me and my comments about his comments about Chris Vakulik.

I don't need to know who he is or what he is all about, but his posting says it all. Think about it: a COLLEGE student writes..."...your pretty clever with the statistic bit..."

Not sure what his gpa has to do with anything but maybe he is proud of it given the fact that EIU likely has finished the first semester and he did well. Good for you, EIU middle infielder.
For high school kids there are 2 that I have seen on Norwood that do not get all the attention yet are arguably the top 2 on the team. One is a junior and one is a senior. Both go to smaller schools so maybe that is why they are not talked about much. The junior is Quin Ewert from CL Central, he consistantly hits 86 and is turning into a polished pitcher. The other is Chase Sonen a senior at Cary Grove. He is 82-86, but has a devistating curve ball and just knows how to pitch. I would take these 2 kids any day over a kid throwing 90 that does not know where it goes, and it seems those are the only kids we hear about, so for those 2 I say congrats and have a great season.
Quinn Ewart is the real deal. Don't know how I forgot about him. One fine person as well. He also has hit 90 while consistently keeping the ball down.Has really become a pitcher over the last year or so.Chase is a real thinking mans pitcher. Also what is the last name of the lefty "Miles"from Leyden that played for Norwood? He can be sensational. Great ball movement and location.
Been...I agree with the promotion part. Not too many coaches out there help out in that regard, some do, don't get me wrong. I know that someplace on these boards, it has been debated whether or not scouting agencies/services are worth the money, but the flip side is who is going to promote the kids? Some of these showcases are invite only.
pitchdoc24.....

Go to PG's website, or Midwest Prospects, or any of the others, fill-out a "player profile" page. They will start sending you the info. within a month. You have to be pro-active!!!!

You also have to spend time asking questions, and reading these 'forums' on this website. BeenthereIL will tell you, so will TARatko. That's how I"m learning.

If you go to a camp, or a training facility, ask people there. Don't be afraid and pick-up the phone. The great thing about these 'boards' and the people, is that they have in some way gone through the process of having their kids participate in showcases, key specific camps at colleges of interest.

Go for it!!

BeenthereIL......

He is a RHP sophomore at OPRF. Has that "Clemens" edge! When he 'perfects' his control, he will be someone to respect. Touched 83mph yesterday during bullpens. As a freshamn, gave our team a tough time last year. Will play for Lombard Lightning this summer.

Another kid that throws hard is, Huddleston(sp), a LHP also from OPRF.

FrattoCat.....

See you at Montini tonight for Lombard workout. I'll introduce you to my son, he catches for John on Saturdays.

beenther-regarding ross larson whether his best ticket is football vs. baseball i am very confident that it is baseball.he is a kid that one day will throw 95.expecting this spring/summer to start hitting the magic number.great work ethic.if hitting 90 plus has chance to be drafted this june.future-big upside.glad he plays with TOP TIER BASEBALL as well as perinar (poss. to hit 95 this spring/summer),eli the same( 95),shane zegarac 90+,blake anderson 90+,and solid handful of other guys hitting 90+.
Play...With all those guys hitting 90 on their way to 95, why did your team lose so many games last year? Touching 90 once in a game during the summer is not cruising 90.

The one time that one of those 6.15 runners had a chance to show the ENTIRE COUNTRY, the best that the fastest ran was a 6.78...good but not a 6.2 or 6.3.

I think you lose a ton of credibility with a lot of people who pay attention to your posting and then actually see your team play. Excuses range from long grass; wet grounds (because it had rained a week ago); "whole" team isn't there because of graduation in July; on and on.
Come on!

At your projection rate (and I "love" Gary's future) Perinar will be at 138 by the end of his sophomore year!

I agree with Beenthere

Just because someone gains 5 MPH in one year does not mean they will the next. Even my pitching coach said it is tougher to go from 85-90 mph then it is to go from 70-85 mph. This is because once you reach mid 80's that extra 5 mph can be something as small as one thing in your mechanics and many people never figgure it out. It is kind of like Tiger Woods...when he needs to get better he works on somehting small and maybe the final results are not as drastic as other golfers, but he still becomes better.
Have to agree with BTIL on some of these velocity claims. When I came on boards this summer I saw some of these #'s and thought wow, these kids can really throw. Then after seeing some of the high school stats from some of these kids I began to wonder. I know that if a high school pitcher can be mid to upper 80's with decent change/curve here in Illinois he will have era below 1.5 and k 12-15 per game.
I know some of the kids mentioned on these boards put up excellent numbers but many didnt come close. After putting a jugs on some of the names I've seen mentioned on the boards (not necessarily those listed above here but many listed on other threads) I was stunned to see the actual velo's- not just the cruising number but the top #. Many of the top pitchers in college W.S. would like to have the velocity numbers bandied about here. Let kids e.r.a's, k/bb ratios and results verse top competition speak for themselves.
I don't care what anyone says, speed is very over rated. It gets you through HS but in college things change. I was reading about some kid in college who throws 102 but cant even break the starting rotation. All speed does is let you get away with more mistakes. My first no hitter of the year last year my fastball had t top out at about 81 but my curve was filthy, and I kept them off balance. In that game I only struck out 6 but I also only walked 2. My next no hitter I was throwing gas, and I struck out 11 but I also walked 6. In my opinion my first no hitter was a better game because when you start walking guys no matter how hard you throw, one base hit can really hurt you.
speed may be over rated, but speed and ability to hit spots with a moving fastball is not.
Beenthere, i know its hard to gain speen at that level, and it is obviously impossible to hit 157 as you just exaggerated. But you can't trick out a gun that consistantly reads the speed you are throwing, witch was 90+ on several consecutive fastballs.
Everyone also saw that strikes were being thrown on most of those pitches. Maybe you were just standing at a bad angle that did not allow you to see where the ball ended up.
