This list can get pretty big and heated but a lot of guys could claim a spot....Blum, Blunt, Yarborough, Huber, Barrentine, Lee, Lipka, etc. etc. etc. (a lot more quality guys not mentioned)...BUT, from what I have seen and read it looks like Ballew has got to have the most skins on the wall this year to stake a pretty big claim to being THE best this year so far. I would say that Feckley has got to have a claim (along with Lipka) as the top OVERALL player so far this year with the numbers they have put up pitching/hitting...IMO of course.
I think the scouts like Cain so much because of his body size and the fact he already throws hard. Obviously I haven't seen a lot of the pitchers we are talking about but I think we have a lot of quality pitchers not only in this area but statewide that will do well in college and with any luck a few in the pros.

I think the scouts are still trying to figure out whether Cain will be a pitcher or position player.

Just my humble opinion...
Jamen Parten has only given up two earned all year for Plano. Shut out Plano West through 6 and two thirds earlier this year and then followed that up with a two hit complete game against them this week.

I have not seen enough kids around the area to say where he stands, but I've seen enough of him to know he belongs in this conversation. He is having a heck of a year.

Everyone can have a good year in HS baseball...but I think consistancy is what one should look at when you ask who is the best. Cain has always had very good years. )

Well said Pawfect. When you have a player emerge onto the very talented DFW area and make a consistent impact since their freshman year AND play for Team USA Baseball.... it just doesn't get much better than that.

Oh come on Danny, you spoiled our benchmark! Yeah Kershaw is definitely an unfair comparison. How about guys still in MILB/College?

Blake Beaven
Trey Haley
Chris Withrow
Jordan Walden
Zack Britton
Brandon Workman

Are those fair?
Kershaw was special at the HS level, and remains so in the MLB. He will be fun to watch for years.

When PirateSon was a freshman, he got the opportunity to go to the plate vs. Kershaw. To say he had an "at bat" might be a little strong, implying that something actually happened with the bat. He worked extra with his hitting coach that week, and was told, as the 9-hole, that he would see fastballs down the middle, just hit it.

On game night, the first pitch was 97 mph on the middle of the plate, and yet the bat didn't move. It happened twice more, and PirateSon went back to the dugout. After the game, "Dad" offered his advice, asking why in the h*&L didn't Jr swing when he knew what was coming???

The response was classic (especially for those of you who know my son) - he said "Dad, if I would have seen it, I would have swung at it".
Tychcobrat#1 (freshman) faced Kershaw (senior) in the 2006 playoffs. Tychco#1brat batted 9th in the order because they weren't allowed to have a 10th. Here's how it went:

1st pitch - FB 96mph called strike.
2nd pitch - FB 95mph ball outside so I hear.
3rd pitch - FB 95mph fouled off (closed his eyes and swung)
4th pitch - FB 95mph ball high rumor had it
5th pitch - Slider 88mph, broke his back..called strike three.

Walked back to the dugout with a grin, though I don't know why. He was the 9th straight strike out victim.

Besides Milner/Pascal the top pitcher in the Tarrant Co. area will eventually be D. McAlpine from Birdville H.S. He's been hurt all season and just recently begin pitching again. First two starts he one hit Aledo and Saginaw with 25+ strikeouts. Unbelivable curve ball and has not yet begun to throw fast ball at his 90+ velocity...

Baseball #6
That is a very bold statement. I agree that both Milner and McAlpine are very good BUT.....

There are at least 5-10 very very good D1 committed pitchers in the Tarrant County area that could hold their own with both of these fine young players

I have yet to see him, but I also hear the Easley kid from Weatherford is pretty stout.
bball71tx......

"BOLD" statement or not...that was my two cents of the two pitchers I feel in "my opinion" are the best in Tarrant County that I have actually seen pitch...Now if you have seen these other 10 pitch, then your "opinion" would be great to hear...,but in future keep in mind that this site is based on opinions...and if we were all "skilled" as you appear to be in the art of pitching you would offer up a little more than contradicting someone else's posts...... Bold or not I am just a baseball players dad who enjoy reading this site and when something appeals to me offering up my OPINION>...not trying to be bold or offend the more "knowledgable"
