In general, is there a better time to call a coach? If a head coach sent son an email with his cell phone, just want to catch up, give me a call sometime soon, do you have any suggestions?

(He has been evaluated by this coach 2x, had an unofficial visit, and the school is a very good match for my son).

Calling after school isn't great because of practice and games, but he could call from his car before practice Monday.

But - Is it rude to call a coach on his cell on a weekend morning?? A few hours before the college game time?

Thanks for any suggestions - aand tips about the call!

Because the coach requested he call to stay in contact I would say to call. There are definitely better times to call, depending on practice schedule, games, travel, etc. My son asked via e-mail when the best time to call was. He included the times he would be able to call. (There was a 3 hour time difference, so involved some thinking) The coach e-mailed what would be the best times to call. I believe he actually gave him 2 specific times that would work with our son's schedule, and ask that our son e-mail which time he would call so that he would be available. That is a good way to go about it. Now that colleges are playing weekend games I would imagine weekday would be easier, but prior to the game might be ok.
Unless there has been agreement before hand, I highly recommend NOT calling the recruiter or head coach at home.

Many will go to the gym early morning, so after the work-out is a better time.

A couple of hours before game time is another no-no.

Suggest an email (since many have blackberries tied to hip) to discuss best time to chat for 5 minutes.
