My opinion is that Cedar Hill High School SS Chris Torrez deserves consideration.  One of the best players in the district last year, with good speed.  He just does not have the height.  Somebody is going to get a steal.

Wish we had more people who would post such insightful, topic killing, and alienating comments such as floridafans.  Why would you even care if whiterat was trying to bait someone into mentioning his son?  I bet you are a true joy to be around.

Floridafan wants to know why you don't just sign your son, since it's obvious to him that you think your son is the best unsigned player available.  I know.....I need to let it go.  Have you figured out my biggest pet peeve yet?

 

It could just be that I'm mad that this type of ploy, used to get your son's name mentioned on the world wide web, has been Watson'esquely (best word ever) figured out and to make it even worse he has so succinctly and eloquently exposed this ruse to everyone.  Now I can't use it to get my son mentioned (but I guess he would have to get on the field first or at least make varsity). 

 

At least I know I got one thing right.........I need to let it go.

Letting it go would be good  FloridaFan has several thousand posts here and is respected as a helpful and friendly member of the community.  I think the post that riled you was just gentle playfulness, not a challenge or an accusation.  

Swampboy- Or maybe it was because every single post whiterat has made here has been under this same premise, throughout several different topics.

Swampboy, you're right.  I read through floridafan's recent posts and he does seem to be a great guy.  So....floridafan, sorry for making you the target of my rant.  I really am very rational and accepting, I just have a couple of things that set me off.  And as a form of self-therapy (so that I can once and for all "Let It Go"), I will share them.   

 

I have no respect for anyone who calls out a high school kid for any past or present (non-baseball related) transgression (I really don't like any negatives about the kids - but for every one that I've read on here, I have probably heard 100 in the stands).  This just isn't the place for it and I always think the offending poster has an agenda.  And to be clear, I'm not accusing floridafan of ever having done this (and based on the posts of his I've read I would bet that he never has and never will) - I'm just expanding on the rant I need to get off my chest and for some reason my wife doesn't seem to want to hear about it (I think she just doesn't feel good today - that's got to be it).  And for full disclosure I will have to plead guilty to my behavior in the stands where I have been known to constantly criticize the ability and effort of one specific kid (but you need to understand - I've seen him play probably 1000 games, he's costing me a fortune, and with his genetic make-up he should be a MLB prospect). 

 

The other thing that sets me off is the accusations implying that someone is throwing out a topic in order to get their son mentioned (or any agenda).  I realize that I'm not much of a contributor here but I do love baseball and enjoy almost every topic of discussion in this forum.  I may not be the smartest person in the world (but based on the comments I hear at the games I attend - I'm far from the dumbest).  So I get it, posters are throwing all sorts of bait out to suit their own personal agenda (again, I'm not accusing any specific poster of doing this but we all know that it happens).  I'm just trying to say "so what", if there was any possible topic I could come up with to get my kid mentioned, I would do it (although, if you are savvy enough that you understood the earlier reference to the kid I tend to criticize, I can tell you that I would have a tough time coming up with a topic that would accomplish this) and It might just result in some interesting opinions, worthwhile discussion, or information on a kid that you have not heard about recently (and if you're like me, it often results in calling the kids parents and telling them you heard how well the kid is doing - the part of baseball I enjoy the most, the relationships and reestablishing the old relationships).  I always want to read about what the kids that I've seen play over the years are doing and the source doesn't really bother me - in fact it's usually fairly transparent.  So if someone wants everyone to know how well their kid is doing, but is uncomfortable posting it - I want them to bait someone else into putting it out there.  Sometimes it's tough to get the information on kids outside your district. 

 

Every year the new group of incoming freshmen baseball parents start visiting this board and we all know the first topic they will bring up.  And it's like a race to see who can be the first old timer to jump in, put them in their place, and let them know what moran's (you will have to read this rants side note to see how I'm tying this together) they are.  I actually think that this one specific thread, that all the freshman parents are interested in, should be encouraged by the old timers and upper class parents.  It is, in my opinion, the best way to get the new parents involved and interested in sharing their opinions instead of thinking "what a bunch of pompous, pretentious, self-important, arrogant, snobbish %#&%#$$'s".

 

And believe me, I realize that it is only a select few that do this and that the overwhelming majority are nothing but hospitable as well as a wealth of information.  So I guess this post is primarily for those few %#&%#$$'s.

 

Or it could be that no one really cares but me (if that's the case at least I got it off my chest and now I can start the healing process).         

 

Side note on the ability of the individuals reading these posts to grasp the true intentions of the poster:  I once responded to a post by calling the individual a "baseball moran" (which she was - I stand by that).  Not my best moment, but I was trying to add a little humor by misspelling moron.  My thought process was that 90% of the people wouldn't catch it, but the ones that did would immediately see the humor.  Well, it didn't turn out that way.  My favorite poster (who was always so witty and funny and occasionally sarcastic - sometimes subtle and sometimes not so much) called me out on the irony of misspelling moron.  The point is, he didn't know me, and I had never written enough for him to get my sense of humor.  I couldn't respond that I had done it on purpose (which would have sounded like the equivalent to saying "oh yeah" when someone gets off a nice verbal jab), but it was a good reminder of how the written word can be misconceived or the intent misunderstood.         

I think you owe MN-Mom a psychiatrist office visit fee for that post. 

My son is a RHP, 6'1", 165 pounds. He throws 83-85 mph fb, 78 mph curve & 80 mph slider. He really wants to play college ball. He has good command and his coach is using him as a closer this season. His record is 2-1 with 3 saves. When his brother went to college he was throwing 85-86 and is now throwing 92-94. My boys are late bloomers. Private message me for more information.

Thanks to those of you that have posted....we are just looking for guys that are under the radar.  We need to pretty much find impact guys at all positions.  We have about 12 scholarship slots left.  Definitely looking for arms, corner guys that have plus power, and speed in the outfield!
