First, most companies "turn" the same models, mostly copied from Louisville. IMO the Louisville T141 or C271 are very well balanced.

In terms of picking a bat company, a key is getting quality and consistency. If you buy the M series from Louisville for example, each bat is going to be pretty identical. My son has bought bats from Old Hickory and King Bat and they too were VERY consistent from bat to bat. However, he's bought bats from X-bat and Tom cat and although they were supposed to be the same model, they were nothing close. He bought 3 from x-bat and you'd never believe they were supposed to be the same model.

so quality control and consistency in how the bats are "turned" is key so that if you buy 2 or 3 of model xyz from a given company the bats are all darn near exactly the same.

Skysthelimit- have your son swing 'em. As I noted the 271 and T141 are noted for being very balanced (not top heavy etc.). The 271 has a thicker handle at the knob then the T141.

I think the other model you mentioned (159)has less taper to it and is like the P72 - Actually all I really know about it is that Stan Musial used that model and I think he did ok Wink

Sky- as far as the term "turning model" most companies "copy" Louisville. Louisville, if for no other reason than being around so long has it's different models (T141, C271, P72, etc.) Most company's sell their model xyz and will typcially say it is turned (that is made/copied/cut) like a Louisville T141 or whatever. Turning is just the process of cutting the bat on the lathe and, again, most companies are simply "turning" a copy of some Lousiville model.
