Blue-Grey Baseball Classic

Perfect Game is much better in my opinion. Our son went to Blue Grey in Jacksonville last summer. Not many "lookers", if you know what I mean. Check out Perfect Game.............

I've looked into PG as well, but I haven't gotten feedback from contacts yet.

I wasn't that famaliar with Blue-grey, and didn't initiate anything until I got a call tonight. Just looking at my options I guess.

Natedawg, my son also received a call from the Blue Grey Classic folks, probably from the same gentleman in Boston. When I asked my son's high school coach for his opinion of the program, this was his exact response, "I have sent 5 players in the past to the Blue-Grey Classic and all 5 ended up receiving Division I scholarships. I think this was in part to the exposure they received at this showcase. I would definitely go." So, needless to say, we're going. I just made hotel reservations last night.

Hmmm, that's good to hear.

The guy said that he'd send me something through the mail. I'll be going to the Blue-Grey event at the University of Cincinnati.

The guy said that 85% of the players that go to Blue-Grey events end up getting scholarship money from some level, so that's nice to hear.

Blue-Grey Baseball - Wake Forrest Fall 2005

This was one of the best showcase type events our son attended in 2005. The team format, the coaches, and the exposure was every thing they said it would be. We saw good pitching, good offensive, and good defensive players with all all the teams.
Scouts in attendance each of the three days.......at least 25 out of the 65 or more that check in during three day the event. Colleges NCAA levels ranges D1,D2,D3, NAIA and JC colleges and even pro levels where in attendance and you knew it wasn't just a show of shirts as you find at other events.
Gus and the guys as BG did a great job at Wake Forrest. Well worth the trip from GA to NC for three days. Our son got plenty of notice and many contacts from colleges after this event.

He is a current 2006 HS senior and has signed with a JC Alabama school.

Yeah, I was there last year (as a player)as a sophomore. I've never been to Perfect Game, but I thought the Jacksonville Blue-Grey was good. The competition was excellent (faced one pitcher who was clocked at 92) despite the intense heat/humidity. They say that 85% of Blue-Grey Clients recieve some type of scholarship, and players who attend the Classic/Battle of the States events are projected to play D2/D1. Unfortunately, Jacksonville was a terribly boring place to stay...

A good experience overall.

We'll be going to a Blue-Grey Showcase at UMass on June 29th, the day after the Perfect Game State Showcase in Wareham Ma. Should be able to get a good comparison then as they are both one day events. I can tell you that B-G was quite a bit less expensive. jsorb, where in CMass are you?

The Blue-Grey Showcase at UMass was very good. Many coaches and good players.

We got the same call. We finally received all of the paperwork and the event looks impressive. We will be attending the 7/21 - 7/23 event in St. Petersburg this year. We thought it was just another showcase, but the format of a tournament seems to be a better way of showing a players abilities in real situations. I will be making our hotel reservations this evening. If you are scheduled for the same event, there are two in FL this summer, maybe you and my son can meet up. What year will you be in the fall?

I attended the blue grey classic when I was in high school, and there was big time talent there. B.J Upton #2 overall pick in the 2002 MLB draft was there along with 2003 High School player of the Year Jeff Allison #15 overall pick in 2003 MLB draft. Its legit, recommened going if serious about playing college ball or beyond.

My player was conceived in Hubbardston! But we moved from there before he was born.

Cool...Pretty close by.

We were also contacted by the Gentleman from Boston. Said he got our sons name from PG. We've been to a few Showcases around IN, GA, and KY. Hope this is another good source for contacts down the line. My son is going to be a Senior this coming year and has speed in the outfield. I find it hard to get good looks for an CF. Maybe this will a good time.

KY - Welcome to HSBBW! My son was a CF in Lexington as well-he's now in college. There are some good showcases around without spending alot of money - but they will just get your son local exposure. I know several kids that did choose to do Blue/Grey and it did provide a tool for exposure to schools outside of KY. Morehead has a very inexpensive and well run showcase every fall that is attended by many schools in this area.

We are fortunate in our area though - there are alot of scouts around who do share info, so your son is probably getting more looks than you realize.

I would check with PG. I'm sure they are not giving out your sons name to another showcase. This same guy from Boston was at the College Select event in RI a few years back and then mailed everyone in the Tournament Program.

I'm not sure what Blue/Grey's connection is in the Lexington area, but I know they invite alot of kids from around here. My son's junior year, three of the juniors were invited. They, like other organizations, probably have connections with folks who pass on kid's names.

My son participated in both Perfect Game and Blue Grey (William and Mary) and he much preferred the Blue Grey event. At PG he was assigned a coach who brought his own players to the event (and naturally wanted to showcase them as opposed to my son). At BG, my son's team was coached by a former major league player with no agenda, and my son's experience was much better.

My son already new where he would be heading to college.But we had paid for the Blue Grey in Wake Forest first session so we were able to go with the lets just have a great time attitude. We went and had a great time. Gus and all his coachs really seemed to be having a good time with the whole group of young men. There was plenty of exposure from good schools and plenty of interest. This part is over for us now but we had wonderfull experience "even with the game that went till 2:30am". I think the key to enjoying these events is going and doing well.We are from the Boston area and we messed up with the session we were in.Gus was very gracious and helped make everything work out just fine. My son actually played for team Penn.and had the chance to make a whole new group of friends from that part of the country. When you love the game as much as the young men that attend these events do it can't be anything but a win win situation for everyone. Most of the boys that go to this event will play college ball at D1,D2orD3. I think if Mom and Dad go with realistic expectations everyone has a great chance to create some special memories. I hope this helps some players make the choice to attend one of these events.

Jim Wiswall

A point of interest, the Wiswall kid was perhaps the top prospect at Wake Forest. Threw over 90 MPH, hit a long homerun and had several other key hits. Although he has verbally committed to a Division I school he was of big interest to many Division I's that attended Wake. Looks like he may very well get drafted between the 5th and 12th rounds in June next year. Great kid!

I would like to say Thank You to Gus and all of the folks that work with him at Blue-Grey. We were at the second Wake Forest session this year and had a very good experience. My son played on Team Southeast which went 2-0. Unfortuantely the rains prevented us from being 3-0. This was our second BG event and we would do it again. Our son really enjoyed working with Coach Johnson. Thanks guys.
