Mr. Dibble,
Don't know if your comment was directed to me or not, but as do others, I look to this board for information, and many folks have been saved time and money from info reported on here, so I don't see a problem with reporting how things went. I've been to two BG at W&M events previously and both were well-attended by scouts, approximately 25-35 schools represented, and the kids after all are there to be seen by scouts, period.
The number of scouts was clearly lower this year, and perhaps there is a reason why, but a number of folks reasonably expected more to be there. I know personally of a couple players that got seen by schools previously showing interest in them and they were delighted to get the chance to be seen, but in terms of absolute numbers, a bit disappointing.
You are correct that if you do the performance thing well, showing the tools as you say, that's job 1, at any location, but when many kids come from several hours north to be seen by southern schools, I think they have the right to expect a decent number of scouts. If I paid $500 and took my son to Boston to showcase his talent, whatever it may be, spending a couple hundred more on hotels and travel, I'd be disappointed to see only a small number of scouts, and that's exactly what a number of northern parents did here, in reverse.
Either way, the kids have to earn their way on the field, and Gus Bell is a first class guy in my book, but clearly smaller numbers this year. Who knows why-weather (very hot, very humid)? Perhaps most colleges starting school this week and next? Perhaps because William and and Mary was without a head baseball coach until yesterday?
