The Wake event was well attended by colleges. They say there were over 40. I can believe it, because I saw about 30. Several pro scouts too. the weather wasn't good, but they got most everything in.

All levels of schools were there.

My son went to a battle of the states in Orlando last year and there were hardly any scouts there, but I had heard that the Wake event was the best one and it was certainly very good.
We had to leave William and Mary after two days due to football practice, but scout/coach numbers were down from previous years. I saw 15-18 during Showcase BP, infield, etc. on Monday, and at the games yesterday, 10-12 or so. Weather was a problem as Williamsburg had a horrific thunderstorm Monday night, and with no head coach in place, the staff at W & M wasn't quite on top of it-field wasn't tarped, and Tuesday games were delayed by a few hours. It may've gotten worse as another storm hit as we left around 7:00 p.m. Weather can certainly be a bear, but it looked like there were no advance contingency plans for adverse weather. Field crew didn't look real baseball-savy, but they worked very hard to get it ready after the sun came out. Organization could have been better; with the weather-related changes, the only source of info was asking at the front desk of the host hotel. No notice posted on the wall, hard to get info, lots of players reported to the field only to find they were 3 hours early. No list of schools posted. Gus is a great guy but this one didn't have a real solid feel to it. I heard a lot of parent grumbles that for the money, they expected a better scout presence.

Approximately 10 kids threw upper 80's-low 90's in the bullpens.
If you have a problem with HS Showcase take it up with them or dont return to anymore of their events.

There is no need to complaign on a message board.

You even see any HS Showcase complaign about parents WHO Greatly EXAGGARATE the 60 yard time, release times, or MPH times in order to get invite into a HS Showcase.

Good example of a whining parent. A mom was whinning no colleege was showing interest in her kid. her kid just threw 78-79 mph RHP which IS SLOW.College and MLB scouts saw him, he did not produce when he had to

Mr. Dibble,

Don't know if your comment was directed to me or not, but as do others, I look to this board for information, and many folks have been saved time and money from info reported on here, so I don't see a problem with reporting how things went. I've been to two BG at W&M events previously and both were well-attended by scouts, approximately 25-35 schools represented, and the kids after all are there to be seen by scouts, period.

The number of scouts was clearly lower this year, and perhaps there is a reason why, but a number of folks reasonably expected more to be there. I know personally of a couple players that got seen by schools previously showing interest in them and they were delighted to get the chance to be seen, but in terms of absolute numbers, a bit disappointing.

You are correct that if you do the performance thing well, showing the tools as you say, that's job 1, at any location, but when many kids come from several hours north to be seen by southern schools, I think they have the right to expect a decent number of scouts. If I paid $500 and took my son to Boston to showcase his talent, whatever it may be, spending a couple hundred more on hotels and travel, I'd be disappointed to see only a small number of scouts, and that's exactly what a number of northern parents did here, in reverse.

Either way, the kids have to earn their way on the field, and Gus Bell is a first class guy in my book, but clearly smaller numbers this year. Who knows why-weather (very hot, very humid)? Perhaps most colleges starting school this week and next? Perhaps because William and and Mary was without a head baseball coach until yesterday?
I see no problem with what H1 reported. He reported just the facts and offerred his impression--exactly what I am looking for. I figure numbers were down at W&M due to the coaching situation there. I just hope for a decent turnout at Coastal this weekend.
I echo H1's comments on Gus. He and his staff were most helpful in getting my son re-assigned after his legion team made regionals. I'm looking forward to a fun weekend.
I have another question to add regarding the Blue Grey. My son went to the Battle of the States in Tampa last month. I was not there and really don't know much about the event. He said he had fun--that's all I got. The website lists pitcher velocity and catcher pop times, but nothing else. Is there an evaluation that will be coming our way? Will any more detail be posted on the web site?

Anyone who knows, please advise.

Thanks.
I would venture to say that what you expierenced was a silent protest in the departure of Coach Farr.

That man worked until 2 AM in the morning back in 2003 when we were down there for the BG, one of those muggy Virginia torential thunderstorms hit that afternoon and he worked his butt off to make sure the kids could play the next morning on time. They did, thanks to him !

He is well respected and rightfully so.

Hopefully things will be back on track next year at William & Mary, time will tell.
