My son and I took a walk on the BC campus this weekend. The baseball field is used as a parking lot. There were tire tracks across the infield dirt. I'm guessing the car missed second while rounding for third.

You must admit, though, the campus is lovely! The only thing we did not think was too great when we looked at it was the split campus - so many Frosh live on the Newton campus and must commute 10 min. or so by bus?

My son wasn't impressed with the look. I don't think Gothic did anything for him. The only thing that impressed him was the location of the upperclassmen condos (and having a yard) to the athletic complex. Personally, I don't think it's a great looking campus. They are kind of land-locked there, but we were told that they are breaking ground on a new 20 mill baseball complex in the spring. They have the $ and finally got the land issues resolved.
The baseball field was a stipulation for joining the ACC. It's not going to affect the campus. In fact, it won't be on the campus.
See, now here we go again with opinions on the looks of schools. I totally respect your idea, ted, but I liked the gothic. I also liked the arena and the football field, although I thought they were in odd locations for the entire college. I thought the library was spectacular! (and BTW, I think BC has a TON more grass than GU - see the other thread, hahaha.)
I know quite a few kids at the school and they all love it. We send a lot of kids there from the left coast.

It's a matter of expectations. A suburban school usually has a lot more grass. An urban school may have just enough grass in the middle of the campus to throw a football or frisbee.quote:I think BC has a TON more grass than GU
Ted, you are so right on. Columbia came immediately to my mind with your comment - when I was there, that is exactly what I saw - football being played on one area, frisbees flying on the other!
Is the new baseball facility actually going to get done? Is there information posted somewhere about it being approved? It's been talked about for a few years but held up due to neighborhood issues.

A cold weather team is always going to have problems with top prospects heading for warmer weather and getting second tier players from warm climates.
Boston College is a fantastic school. Anyone who gets a chance to attend should strongly consider it whether there are tire tracks on the field or not.

When my son and I visited with Coach Aoki in July he showed us drawings of the new field.
As I remember they are not close to construction due to political issues witht the land.
My son did not like the campus or the school but being from the area BC is a great, great school with an excellent alumni group. I must admit I wish he had been more interested in BC.

When we visited BC we were shocked to see the baseball field....we spent more time looking at the football field. It was a nice campus and still is great school. I hope they get the new field.
Shame the field is still the same as it was when son first went up many years ago (5 or 6 years ago).
However, their bb program is improving, great school and the exposure in the ACC is worth it.

As of the end of the college baseball season the new complex had not been approved according to discussions I had with BC parents. Despite the baseball field being a parking lot for the football field, by northeast standards it's in good shape during the baseball season.
While the BC campus is in Newton, the field is on ground over the line in Boston. How many years did it take to build a new Boston Garden? How many years was it before the Rd Sox gave up on a new stadium and rebuilt Fenway Park? How long were the Boston Patriots nomads before they almost left town and the stadium was built in Foxboro? The City of Boston is very corrupt. There needs to be some serious palm greasing before BC gets their baseball complex.
