Congrats to Coach Alex Kotheimer, son of Cabbagedad (which I guess makes him Cabbageson) for being voted Coach of the Year in the Valley League for 2018. Southern Division Champ Covington got knocked out of  the playoffs last night by Charlottesville-due to the continuing rains in Virginia, the semi-finals were changed to a one game winner take all affair and they fell to Charlottesville, 7-6.  Covington had its best season in many years and from personal observation, Alex did a super job. He's very personable, certainly a "player's coach", and has a bright future. It was great meeting him (another of several HSBaseballweb connections through the years) and he just comes across as a great guy, with "successful coach/great recruiter" written all over him.  As for the rain, lawns and baseball fields across the Commonwealth look like early spring (We watered our infield exactly once all summer long).    Great job Alex!

Thanks again, Hokie and everyone!

Obviously, a great group of players was primarily responsible for the success.  Also, his pitching coach, Brett Elgin, did an amazing job.  Still, it was really cool to see him handle things seemingly very well from start to finish.  He really enjoyed the community, the league and had great things to say about Hokie's Strasburg Express organization.

I'd like to offer my heartfelt congratulations also.  As the parent of a player who just went through two months of really poorly ran* baseball summer college leagues need all the good coaches they can get. Good luck to your son in all his future endeavors.

*While the team didn't tank or try to lose games they came to an agreement the coach didn't deserve for the team to make the playoffs. That's really sad.
