While traveling south with my son during the summer, I found it alarming that college/pro scouts are not considering Maryland baseball worthy for scouting.

I pose this to get some opinions on how MD HS's, American Legion, Summer Travel Teams, and Summer Colliegiate League's, can begin to join forces to bring Baseball back to our State.

Any thoughts?

BUDDY,

What did you see or hear in the south that made you think MD kids are being ignored?

Are you proposing that we try to raise the profile of the existing MD talent, or expand participation and skill level?  Or something else?

The NFHS publishes participation data.  Their 2011-2012 report put MD at #32 in number of kids participating in baseball.  I doubt the states with less participants than MD are getting much attention either.

The states that stand out to me are Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, Michigan and New Jersey.  Those states are high on the participation scale, but not what I think of as baseball hotbeds.  I would speculate that scouting activity is concentrated in areas where the level of play is highest, and the numbers are greatest.  But anyone on this message board will tell you…  for the big fish, scouts go where the talent is.
