Fort Myers/Cape Coral is a nice place to live, in my opinion. The quality of life is good. I have relatives in Bonita Springs, just south of Ft. Myers. The climate is basically tropical with probably the most moderate winter temperatures in the state, north of the Keys.

The schools are relatively good quality with several good baseball programs. Baron Collier has produced good players, as has the catholic school Bishop Verot. There are a two or three strong summer teams, who routinely put kids in front of scouts and college coaches. The SWFL program regularly has top D1/draft type players.

The local state college FGCU has a nice baseball program that feeds on local players.

The southwest part of the state has been very hard hit by the real estate meltdown, but I think we are perhaps closer to the end than the beginning. The area has some of the best saltwater fishing in the world. Plus, they are the spring training home of the Boston Red Sox, at least for the next 30 years.

Cape Coral is a nice place. There are only a few high schools there but they are all pretty good. There are plenty of good summer leagues out of Ft Myers. Usually a lot of showcases and All-Star games down there as well. FGCU is an upand coming college program. Coach Tollett was my HS coach. They are going to be a player in D1 before long. They took UM to extra innings at UM when they were undefeated last year.
Just spent spring break in the greater Fort Myers area and had a great time. We played Cape Coral, Mariner, and Island Coast. We lost to Mariner 3 - 0 and Mike Zunina put on a show picking off 4 baserunners in that game. Island Coast had one of the nicest high school playing fields I have ever seen. It was a great trip for us and I can not say enough about the hospitality of the schools that we played.
