DES PLAINES, IL- The Illinois Indians Travel Baseball Team, in conjunction with Play Ball USA, Chicagoland's premier indoor baseball-softball training facility, will present the Chicago Elite Showcase, a series of youth baseball all-star games for the age groups of 9-14, on Saturday, August 7, 2010. The 'Showcase will be held on the campus of Oakton Community College in Des Plaines, 1600 East Golf Rd, Des Plaines. Admission is free.

"The rapid growth of travel baseball over the years has eliminated the old town-centered Little League All-Star Game," said Play Ball USA Owner-CEO Nelson Gord, a former professional baseball player with pro, college, and high school playing roots in the Chicagoland area. "The Chicago Elite Showcase aims to bring that All-Star Game concept back to the forefront. Coaches from participating leagues will select the very best player on each of their teams, and we will form the Elite Showcase rosters accordingly. We're trying to bring a traditional feel to the event by using wooden bats. We are excited and proud to put the resources of Play Ball USA into making this event a first class presentation. I'd also like to thank Coach Bill Fratto and the Oakton College staff for partnering with us on this project."

A total of eight wooden-bat games will be played over the course of the day on August 7, featuring an estimated 300 players from youth baseball leagues that include the Mid-Suburban, North Shore, and Spring Fever Baseball Leagues. A complete listing of participating leagues is available at chicagoeliteshowcase.com.

"The 14 year old players will be entering high school next fall, so it's a great opportunity for them to play in front of high school coaches and display their skills at the end of the summer," said Gord. "But, this event is also for fun, not just for future stars. For some of the younger players, this could be the best baseball memory they ever have. That's equally important to us."
