Catcher41 and observer44,
I'm sorry to hear that you have not been able to get into Chat sessions! The Chat room on this site is powered by Java, and I would guess that you have a security setting, either in your browser or through your Internet access service such as AOL, or through an Anti-Virus / Security program you are running.
I'm not sure what you have tried so far, but here are a few suggestions:
1. At the top of your browser window (Internet Explorer), click on Tools, then Internet Options. Click the Security tab. Click on Trusted sites and then click Sites. Make sure
http://www.hsbaseballweb.com is added as a trusted site.
2. While you are checking the Security settings, you can
temporarily set your "Security level for this zone" very low as an experiment to see if this helps. Slide the slider all the way down to Low, click OK, and then try to enter the Chat room again. There probably will not be a chat in progress, but at least you can see whether this page performs differently than it did before. Please note that setting your "Security level for this zone"
to Low is a TEMPORARY test to see if this makes a difference to you. I do not want to recommend that you lower your security settings permanently since I don't know which other sites you have designated as Trusted. If the above does make a difference, you might want to then increase your security settings back up to Medium while you explore what to do permanently.
3. A similar but more specific change you can make in Internet Explorer is: At the top of your browser window (Internet Explorer), click on Tools, then Internet Options. Click the Advanced tab. Scroll down to the Java (Sun) settings, and make sure "Use Java" etc. is checked. If not, click the checkbox, click OK, and then you will have to shut down and restart your computer to make this setting take effect.
4. If all else fails, you might want to try sending a technical support request to your Internet access service such as AOL. Tell them that you cannot access a Java chat application at
http://www.hsbaseballweb.com/chat.htm and see if they have any specific recommendations for you.
5. If you are running a separate Anti-Virus program such as Norton, etc. (and I would definitely recommend using one!), try the Help section of that software or the company's website, do a search for Java, and see if you come up with any recommendations for changing those software settings to access Java applications.
Whew, that's a long list, but security issues are getting more and more complicated these days, aren't they?
Feel free to contact me directly at jas@pclink.com to see if I can help you further if the suggestions above don't work. I'm not an expert, but I've dealt with some of these issues in my job (Web development related) and I usually can think of something else to try or investigate.
Good luck!
Julie
