I still cannot believe this ... there will be an All-Star State and Reg'l tourney for 6yr old T-Ball.

The VA State tourney is slated for June 15th TBD and the Reg'l is scheduled for July 8th in Manassas, VA.

What is the Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth organization doing here? Why?

Wonder how the selection process will be done for a 6yr-old T-Ball All-Star team?

IMHO, just too much focus on ALL-STARS and not enough attention on teaching the game to the masses.

The local 12U program here in Winchester is top-notch but in recent years, not seeing it transitioning over to the high school level.

High School baseball locally is very, very down for the overall talent.

Houston, we have a problem!

I must say I agree with you

A few year back I received an email regarding an 8U team being put together to play in "select" tournaments around the country. Since his phone was on the email I called--told him I had a 6 year old who played up and asked about the program---he said he was interested ---they would be putting the kids up for the summer---He was based in Texas----you tell me what parent will send a 6 year old to strangers for the summer to play in "select" tournaments !!!

I guess it takes all kinds
I was happy my son thought tee ball was dumb and didn't want to play. He preferred practicing with his sister's 12U travel softball team and hitting off the machine after practice.

If my son wanted to play tee ball that would have been ok. But I wouldn't have crossed the town line to play. 6-8 year olds don't need travel ball. All they need is an extended local season for those who want to play. In 7/8's we had informal pickup games twice a week for six weeks in the summer. Even from 9-12 community based travel playing surrounding towns in local tournaments should be enough.

Believe it or not USSSA starts national championships at the 5U tee ball level. I remember on a chat board a coach telling me about his 6U national championship team practicing two hours a night five days a week and playing tournaments all weekend. The funny part was how talented he thought the players were. They all had strong arms and threw "lasers." It's not hard to ID a dad on the first time around with the youngsters.

My son skipped T-ball. Had we known they had an ALL-Star team, well we might have stuck around instead going directly to machine pitch. Obviously he was way more advanced than the kids just hitting off a T.

Dub,

Not trying to call you out onthis one, but there is no six year old in the world too advanced for tee ball. High School, college and MLB guys hit ff tee's religiously as part of their routine.

As far as a travel or all star tee ball team, that is pathetic. Talk about a great way to weed everyone else out of the game of baseball and send them to lacrosse or s****r. Skill sessions with stations and a fun competition at the end are far better suited for these kids than real baseball games. JMHO>

TR ... give me 3 of your favorite numbers and I'll get my 3 as I'll be submitting those for the Mega Millions tomorrow night.

Now anything is possible my friend!

Jeez, it was a joke ( I thought that was pretty obvious by the laughing imodicon) - I don't know of a good hitter that doesn't use a T. Lighten up Gap.

Probably the 12 kids not playing in the infield dirt during the game are the ones selected.

I agree the whole 'all star' thing gets overblown.

I like the way our local PONY team does local all stars here in the Olympia area. After the regular season they find coaches that want to coach a few games during the summer. The coaches then go to the regular season coaches and look for kids that would like to play some baseball in an 'all star' tourney.

It is fun, kids get to meet other kids and he competition stays fairly light. If you are under 12 it is great. My son is on his first select team this year and is going to miss out on that experience but that is what you give up when you are older.
No All-Star t-ball around here, as none of our leagues names All-Stars.
Most of our youth leagues are all set up either Rec or Competitive, with upper & lower divisions of play.
Sadly, locally, every year there is at least one 5 & 6 y/o powerhouse t-Ball tournament team that is set up from the get go to destroy every t-ball team it faces. From indoor t-ball in the winter to at least one WS in July it's something many of us try to ignore. At 5, going on 6, both of my boys skipped t-ball to play up in machine pitch. Basically traded the drama of chasing "big time t-ball"Roll Eyes for learning how to hit very well off the Jugs machine. Good decision, as was encouraging them to continue hitting off their batting T's.

Tee ball is available at three years old in our area at the Y. So is s0ccer. Most of the parents see it as physical activity. Then there are the handful of nuts. At three to six I preferred my son to be running and playing on a jungle gym and playing neighborhood pickup sports. He got enough sports activity hanging out at the s0ccer, basketball and softball practices of his five years older sister. He was kicked out of Gymboree at age two for running across the top of the equipment. I believe the best way for little kids to have fun in sports is playing pickup games with the older kids. When my son was three he got the pee beat out of him playing street hockey with the five and six year olds. When it got rough he learned where to put the butt end of the stick. Who's going to beat up a three year old for spearing?
