Turns out everyone is okay, and this was posted on their blog:

Praise from a Firefighter
Submitted by clarinda on Mon, 2008-06-02 21:07.
One of the firemen who attended to the bus fire had great praise for the team. While this is a tragedy for the team, it is a testament to the character of the players and their families:

"just wanted to let you know what a great group of young men you have on your team. early this morning we responed to a fire along i-29, when i arrived on scene people were everywhere! they were concerned with their belongings on the bus. when we ask them to move to a safer location they responded with "yes sir" and promptly moved. this is a testament to number one the parents commitment to raising good young men and to a coach who has the respect of his players! i have an 18 year old going away this summer to college to play baseball, i shared this story with him , and how most of the guys lost lucky shorts, socks, ipods, ect but took the time to shake firefighters hands and thank us for what we did. how refreshing!!! i have a great love for baseball, and realize how much gloves mean to a guy, as i still have my old rag from my high school career. it is worth about $1.50 but if i were to lose it in a fire i would be crushed. please pass along to the guys how sorry we were for not being able to save more of their things. but as many of them said at least no one got hurt. and in the end if no one gets hurt we live to fight another day, kind of like in baseball. your team got defeated on i-29, but i hope this brings them closer as a team!! please pass this along to the coaching staff they have a GREAT BUNCH OF YOUNG MEN!!"
"I would be lost without baseball. I don't think I could stand being away from it as long as I was alive." Roberto Clemente #21

Having been to Clarinda last summer, I can attest to the age of that old bus. Let's just say it was a classic, and in slightly better shape than this one.

My sympathies to all the players and coaches on the A's. I hope they can recoup their losses and get on to a great summer in the MINK.
Hey Ozzie Smith! If your out there your old summer team may need some help.
I was at the Long Beach Regional and at dinner after the late game, we were at one of the 11pm dinners, my son was talking with one of the players who are playing for the Clarinda A's and they were on their way back home after the game.

The next morning, I get a couple of phone calls from the parents of two different players who were on the bus (they were just put on the team a couple of weeks earlier) telling me of the bus fire.

I find out that my son was on a call @ 1am PST with the guys in who were in Missouri at a truck stop after the fire had destroyed virtually everything they had.

I called my older son who had played for Clarinda three years earlier and he started to laugh because they were on their way to Wichita for the NBC World Series and the bus had broken down in the middle of nowhere and they had to wait on the side of the road for three hours for a mechanic just to come to fix the bus. They arrived to the tournament a day late…

Welcome to collegiate summer ball!
