This is the same write-up that is under the week#4 thread, but Dugdale and Olen deserve a wide audience for their efforts.
Here are the pitching lines for the Souhegan / Bedford game
Terry Dugdale - 7IP, 3R, 2ER, 3Hits, 5BB, 1HBP, 9 K’s, 134 Pitches
Lucas Olen – 6IP, 5R, 4ER, 7Hits, 3BB, 12 K’s, 106 Pitches
Dugdale an Olen were on center stage in this one. The top of the first was déjà vu from the game last week, only this time it was Bedford failing to make more out a bases loaded situation. Dugdale walked 3 and allowed 1 hit in a 30 pitch inning that saw Bedford limited to 1 run. He did not walk another Bedford batter until the 7th and he mixed it up well. Jeff Gancarz did get a homerun off of him in the 4th to tie the score art 2, but Dugdale was very efficient in the middle innings. One side note, the strike zone was very high today. It was consistent for the most part and both pitchers were denied on some fine pitches at the knees. In a strange way; however, the high zone probably saved Dugdale in the 1st as he got 2 Bedford batters looking at high strikes before the ump’s strike zone was clear to the batters. As most excellent pitchers do, he settled down from there on and twirled a nice game for any pitcher, let alone a sophomore in a very important game.
Olen (who is a junior) matched him through the first five and he even pitched well in the 6th. As LJ said, it was a well played game and the Souhegan bats were clutch in the bottom of the 6th answering Bedford’s run in the top of the inning to score 3 of their own for the 5-3 final. DJ Petropoulos (2-2,BB,1R) led it off with a sharp single up the middle. Matt Schagrin walked on a 3-2 count and Kyle Beaulieu delivered an 0-2 RBI single. Nick Hession managed another 2 strike single driving in Schagrin, but Bedford centerfielder Mike Laflamme threw a strike to catcher Jeff Gancarz who held on after a good, hard slide by Alex Lyon who was running for Beaulieu. Hession scored following a Bedford error. Dugdale came back to get the last 3 outs in the top of the 7th. He did walk two, but he must have been on fumes given the pitch count. Dugdale also homered to tie the game at 1 in the 2nd.
