Hollis Brookline has been putting it together as of late. They started 1-4 with a couple of tough early season losses but have since won 4 of 5 to get back to .500 at 5-5. Good mix of kids with contributions coming from the entire team. Future looks bright with Freshmen pitcher Tim Rencken and Sophomores Mike Chase & Ethan Shultz doing very well in everyday roles. HB defeated Oyster River on a 1 hit complete game by Charley McCubrey this past Monday and followed that up with a complete game win by Mike Chase over Coe Brown today.

Any other class I fans want to comment on how their favorite team looks so far????

The Portsmouth & St. Thomas home and home over the next week+ will have a bearing on which team is seeded higher than the other going into the tournament; however, they will most likely end up 1-2 barring a surprise loss to a team other than each other.

Lebanon can (and just might) run the table. Even so, they will not get the #1 seed because they won't have the Heal Points, but how can you not like a team that has beat all comers? Woodward is a well known fixture at the top of the rotation, but they must have some pitching depth to keep winning.

The precious #4 seed is up for grabs with Souhegan, Con Val, Bedford and Merrimack Valley jockeying for position. Souhegan, Bedford and Con Val all play each other one more time, so they can resolve the debate on the field and they could also split across the board and open the door for someone else like MV.
Nice win by Hollis Brookline today over Monadnock. Lefty Justin Dapalito got the win in a mercy game (11-1 5 innings). HB scored 9 in the 1st. HB seems to be really putting it together. They are deep with pitching which makes them competitive in all their games each week. I see other teams being much shorter on pitching in general.

The HB pitchers seeing the most innings include Dapalito, Charley McCubrey, Mike Chase, Nick Barrett, Tim Renken. They have other experienced guys they can turn to as well but haven't needed them during this roll.
Bedford did win @Laconia 14-4

Bedford exploded for 13 hits in a shortened 5 inning game. Zach Husband (3-3,BB,3R,2SB), Matt Woodmansee (3-4,2B,2R,4RBI), Mike Laflamme (2-4,2B,1R,1RBI), Nate Harrington (2-2,BB,2R,1RBI) and Kevin White (1-2,3B,BB,2R,3RBI) led the way. Joey Maher and Mike Skilton each scored a run and added base hits. White recorded the win for Bedford.

The highlight for Laconia was a 3 run home run by #42 the first baseman. I apologize that I didn't get his name, so please post it if you know it. I heard that he is a sophomore and today was his first Varsity start.
Hollis Brookline defeated Pelham tonight 4-2. Charley McCubrey picked up the win with a 5 inning effort. Tim Renken pitched the 6th and Kenny Glover brought the gas in the 7th to get the save.

Pelham got run in the first. They leadoff man walked but HB turned an around the horn double play. Pelhams 3rd batter Moran singled then was driven in on a triple by Couillard.

HB answered in the bottom on the 1st with a 2 out single by Macyn Clifford, a walk to Kenny Glover, an RBI single by Juston Dapalito and then a 2 RBI single by 1st baseman Brad Stowell. HB grabbed another run in the second and that was all the scoring for the game.

Big game on Wednesday at HB versus St Thomas. Come check it out if you are in the area. HB now stands at 7-5.
This is the same write-up that is under the week#4 thread, but Dugdale and Olen deserve a wide audience for their efforts.

Here are the pitching lines for the Souhegan / Bedford game

Terry Dugdale - 7IP, 3R, 2ER, 3Hits, 5BB, 1HBP, 9 K’s, 134 Pitches
Lucas Olen – 6IP, 5R, 4ER, 7Hits, 3BB, 12 K’s, 106 Pitches

Dugdale an Olen were on center stage in this one. The top of the first was déjà vu from the game last week, only this time it was Bedford failing to make more out a bases loaded situation. Dugdale walked 3 and allowed 1 hit in a 30 pitch inning that saw Bedford limited to 1 run. He did not walk another Bedford batter until the 7th and he mixed it up well. Jeff Gancarz did get a homerun off of him in the 4th to tie the score art 2, but Dugdale was very efficient in the middle innings. One side note, the strike zone was very high today. It was consistent for the most part and both pitchers were denied on some fine pitches at the knees. In a strange way; however, the high zone probably saved Dugdale in the 1st as he got 2 Bedford batters looking at high strikes before the ump’s strike zone was clear to the batters. As most excellent pitchers do, he settled down from there on and twirled a nice game for any pitcher, let alone a sophomore in a very important game.

Olen (who is a junior) matched him through the first five and he even pitched well in the 6th. As LJ said, it was a well played game and the Souhegan bats were clutch in the bottom of the 6th answering Bedford’s run in the top of the inning to score 3 of their own for the 5-3 final. DJ Petropoulos (2-2,BB,1R) led it off with a sharp single up the middle. Matt Schagrin walked on a 3-2 count and Kyle Beaulieu delivered an 0-2 RBI single. Nick Hession managed another 2 strike single driving in Schagrin, but Bedford centerfielder Mike Laflamme threw a strike to catcher Jeff Gancarz who held on after a good, hard slide by Alex Lyon who was running for Beaulieu. Hession scored following a Bedford error. Dugdale came back to get the last 3 outs in the top of the 7th. He did walk two, but he must have been on fumes given the pitch count. Dugdale also homered to tie the game at 1 in the 2nd.
Bedford defeated Conval 5-2 in Bedford. Although Joey Maher was suppose to start the game, he was hit in the mouth with a ball during outfield warm-ups prior to the game. Ryan Gancarz was forced to start the game, and pitched the first inning, while Maher was taken to the trainer's room for treatment. Maher returned to pitch the 2-4th innings, while Bedford built a 5-1 lead. The cut to Maher's mouth opened up after the 4th, and he was forced to leave the game to get stitches. Ryan Gancarz, who had remained in the game and played right field, returned to the mound and pitched well, finishing the game for the Bulldogs.

Zach Husband (1-2, 2R, 2RBI)led the offense, while Maher and Walsh also drove in runs. Heddy (2-4) and Fisher(1-3, 1R) had good days at the plate for Conval. Cohen and McFarland pitched well in defeat. Bedford plays again tomorrow at Milford.
Bedford - 11
Milford - 1

10 different Bedford batters recorded hits and 8 scored a run, led by Mike Laflamme (2H,2B,3R,1RBI,SB)and Ryan Mossman (1H,1BB,2R). Jeff and Ryan Gancarz each doubled and scored, while Zach Husband, Joey Maher, Matt Woodmansee and Kevin White all singled, scored and drove in a run. Lucas Olen pitched 3 scoreless innings, striking out 6 to earn the win and helped his cause with a 2 RBI double. Woodmansee pitched well for 3 innings and James O'Brien set them down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 7th.
HB lost to Souhegan today 5-0. Souhegan looks strong but HB hung in there. The HB starter Justin Dapalito gave up 2 in the first but had to come out as he is battling a sore elbow. Nick Barrett came in and pitched the next 3 and 2/3 allowing 2 runs. Mike Chase contributed 1 and 1/3 innings of shut out ball and Charley McCubrey threw the final frame and allowed a run. All and all not bad considering that the game plan went out the window from the get go. The real issue for HB was lack of timely hitting. Matt Shagrin of Souhegan pitched well (only allowed 2 hits) but walked quite a few batters thus giving HB some chances but they couldn't take advantage of them.
Fantastic win by HB over a very good Bedford team. Charley McCubrey dueled Lucas Olen thru 4 innings with HB leading 1-0. In the 5th Bedford brought in hard throwing Joe Mayer and he cruised thru the 5th. In the 6th however The Cavs took advantage of walks and some extra base hits to eventually put up a 9 run inning. The final score was 11-1. McCubrey pitched 5+ innings of 1 run baseball only giving up 2 base hits. Justin Dapalito pitched the 6th and Kenny Glover closed it out in the 7th.

11 hits in total for HB. Kenny Glover 3 for 4, 2 singles and 1 double. Ethan Shultz 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a BB. Maycn Clifford 1 for 3 with a single and 2 BB's. Justin Dapalito 2 for 4 with a single and a double. Also chipping in hits were Mike Chase, Kevin Chase and Tim Renken.

This win should give the Cavs quite a few points in the Heal standings. The Cavs look to be peaking at just the right time.....
With results from today still pending for St. Thomas / Coe-Brown and Monadnock / Fall Mountain, H/B is in 9th place trailing Brady by less than a single Heal Point for 8th place. After today there are only 5 games left in Class I and the two with the greatest potential for impact on the standings are St. Thomas / H/B and Kennet / MV. H/B can finish anywhere from 7th to 10th. A win over St. Thomas gets them the 7th seed. A loss and they still have a shot at the 8 seed if Kennet beats MV. There are other results that could affect them involving Milford vs Portsmouth and Souhegan.

P.S. It was a good win for H/B today and they showed some toughness agianst Maher in the 6th. One of the potential scenarios has H/B playing at Bedford in the first round.
