For HS player that is committed and there is a coaching change at that school, do you wait to see who the new head coach is before making any decisions or do you open up recruiting?

Remember a commitment is only verbal, secondly you are traveling down the path blindly.

The new coach might have a different recruiting strategy.

Is he retaining any of the old coaches, as for they would give him insights concerning the new class.

Brush off your target list,  put out feelers if there is still interest.

Honestly, I don't think there is one right answer....it depends.   You have to take each verbal commitment situation as a one off when a coach leaves.

First, I would verify that your verbal has been noted with the remaining coaches or the AD.  You need to check on the status of your verbal commitment and assume the absolute worst.  Assume nothing.  There are many stories on HSBBWeb where people have assumed incorrectly.  You need updated and accurate data points before moving onto to the following hypothetical questions before taking action:

1) It depends why the previous coach left.  Was it a step up for him or was he let go for performance? Is the program under funded?   Fill in your reason here...

2) It depends on how much baseball means to you?   Do you intend on playing professionally or is baseball a means to get into a college that you wouldn't normally have access to?

3) It depends on the competitive level.   I'd think a heck of a lot more about this if it is a D1 P5 than I would a D3 HA.  Don't forget how valuable a college baseball roster spot is right now.

4) It depends what your offer terms were.  Were you a 50% scholly guy or a lated recruited walk-on?

5) Honestly assess your value to the current program or other programs.   Does it still make sense.

Just a couple thoughts that come to mind.....good luck with your journey.

As always, JMO.

A good friend of my son's encountered this situation.  Just before his freshman year a new coach was appointed to where he had committed.  The coach reached out and told him that he was still welcome with no changes to his scholarship.  During freshman year the kid only got a couple of meaningless at bats.  At the end of the year the coach told him that he wanted to win right away so wanted to bring in a bunch of grad transfers.  I don't think he kept any of the 2020s that the prior regime recruited.

Another example: Another friend was an early commit (freshman year of HS).  The recruiting coordinator left the school, but the HC quickly reached out to assure him that all was good.  By the time he got to the school the new RC had brought in his own guys and this kid was glued to the bench.  He left after a year.

I would think your examples are more the norm.

The new coach is accountable towards building a program, thus he will do a Frank Sinatra  "His way".

Here are 3 examples based on coaching changes for the 2022 season

Outgoing - Players from previous year's roster that left program

Incoming - New Players (note, you will need to read into if the commits from the previous staff still came to school or did coach load up on transfers
