I know many posters have mentioned what a tight group coaches are and they all seem to talk/know each other's business.  My son verbally accepted an offer yesterday.  I told him, that he must call the other schools who offered and speak to them over the phone (none of this text message crap).  Within an hour each of the other schools texted him (guess I'm old school), knowing he accepted another offer.  And none of these schools are in the same conference.  We literally had 5 offers from 5 different conferences.

I don't know how the word gets around so fast.  Maybe they have a Coaches Message Board where they post their commitments

Thanks to everyone on the board, you really do know what you're talking about.

Thanks for sharing and congrats to you and son on the commitment and all the interest!

More learning opportunity for readers... Any of the other offers have him wishing he had waited?  Were any of those schools higher on the list and son was having a hard time getting response or offer?  Had your son put anything out on social media?

The offers he received occurred in early/mid-July and they were great allowing us time.  The school he accepted was his top target for a few years and their offer came in last.  I humbly say I don't think it could have played out any better.

He's not a big social media user.  He posted on Instagram, only after all schools and his high school coach were advised.  We didn't want the schools finding out that way.  Though, his sister was upset, as she found out via Instagram.

CTBBALLDAD, heartiest possible congratulations to your son!!!

You're so right to call this to others' attention. Recruiters tend to know who's recruiting whom; and, once a player in whom they have an interest commits, word can get around pretty fast.

Meanwhile, it's not unusual for recruiters who can't be in two places at one time to call a friend who is a peer and ask that he be on the lookout for a particular player; especially when they think that their friend won't have a need/interest in that player. As a result, don't ever think that a particular school isn't represented just because they don't have someone physically present on that particular day.

Many of these guys have played together and competed against one another at a variety of levels for years; and that shared experience creates a community that can be pretty close and strong. It should come as no surprise that the network that shared experience engenders is pretty strong. This applies to many of the scouts, as well.
