Way back in the day, my college had a PE requirement. You had to accumulate 4 credits in a PE class, and each class gave 1 credit. But you couldn't get more than 2 of the credits in any one sport.

As I recall, I got 2 credits via my participation on the baseball team. For the other 2 credits, I showed up to play 3 hours of pickup basketball once a week for 2 fall semesters. (These credits were pass/fail, not graded.)

Of course, that was back when the baseball teams didn't claim all of your time in the fall, too! So I have no idea what schools allow these days, but at least to a limited extent some form of credit for baseball has occurred and probably still goes on.

In my case, the number of credits wasn't all that significant, but it did get one graduation requirement checked off the checklist.
Actually my son's DI does give a limited number of Physical Education credits to athletes of competitive sports. Cool From the Course Catalog....
quote:
COMPETITIVE ATHLETICS

Enrollment limited to those academically qualified to compete in intercollegiate athletic programs. Consent of coach required. Total credit limited to 8 units. Courses are each 2 units and meet for a minimum of 10 hours per week. All competitive athletics courses are evaluated on a Credit/No Credit basis.

I believe that some physical education credit should be given to any collegiate athlete based on the amount of time and effort required to compete.....

But as for baseball, if you get 4 yrs of playing there ought to be a minor in Field Maintenence....Turf studies, raking 101.....water management......stadium operations........something... Big Grin
