I know a lot of you guys are parents of college or pro players. Wondering about my son's day tomorrow. He is playing in a pretty well-regarded summer league. He's had a great summer....5-0 with a 1.21 ERA in 30 innings. FB up to 90 with a good curveball and change. His team had the top ERA guy in the league and the top closer, pitching spots are limited, and every team gets some kids into the game, so unfortunately he isn't playing in the All Star Game, but is attending a scout showcase available to other top guys during the afternoon. He's been told by his PC (former pro pitcher) that this event is very well scouted by pro scouts. He is going to be a soph at a D1 and not eligible to be drafted until after his junior year. He's kind of curious what to expect. He attended some bigger college showcases as a HS kid and played summer ball with a team that had 40-50 college coaches at some games, but up to now has never had any pro contact. If he is upper 80's-90 with good control and offspeed is working, will he get noticed? Can scouts talk to him? His summer PC is very well connected and has already put the word out to some scouts to take a look at him. Should be interesting....considered going down, checking out the workout and then watching the All Star game, but didn't want him to have any additional pressure Any ideas how things work at one of these types of showcases?
