Hey everyone,

So I've been admitted to ASU, University of San Francisco, and the University of Oregon. I haven't been very recruited, but currently I'm among the leaders in strikeouts in Colorado (I have 21 in 8 innings pitched.) And without the major blunders of my fielders, I would have a pretty impressive ERA. In my last outing, our left fielder mis-judged three balls, broke straight in, and they flew over his head for doubles. I'm playing the best baseball of my life right now. I know that there has been a topic dedicated to walk-ons and I'm wondering which of these schools accept walk-ons. I've reached out to the coaches and filled them in on my season thus far and asked them about their walk-on policies, but they haven't responded. I'm guessing this is just a result of their busy schedules right now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kyle

I know that you want to play college baseball but what do you want to do with yourself AFTER college if baseball was not an option and you had to choose a career that you'd enjoy? With that answer, choose the school you want to attend and go have fun. Don't limit yourself to just the schools you've been accepted to. If you're set on going to these schools for the academics and can't play on the baseball team check to see if they have a club ball team.

Keep up the hard work for you might be surprised who is looking at you. Does your coach help Seniors get to colleges? See if he can help you. Ask him to be brutally honest at what level he thinks you can play at.

And most importantly, don't get in the habit of pointing fingers at your teammates. It's never good. Take responsibility for your ownself and encourage your teammates at all times.

Good luck.

I agree, but ASU and Oregon have a very high amount of recruits that they bring in and often shed off. Pitchers tend to get the bulk of the recruiting dollars, so if they are not interested in you, that maybe a sign.

To contact the coaches, check their school's directory if it is not obvious under the coach's profile.

USF Staff Directory

Matt Hobbs is their pitching coach and recruiter for USF.

Good Luck, but you also may want to expand your schools that fit your acedemic desires and your athletic skills, as others have suggested.

Oh, wow, I didn't even mean it like that. They weren't "major" blunders, either. You're all right, it's my fault that those balls were hit. I apologize for what may have sounded bratty or snide. I wasn't trying to put my teammates - and friends - down.

Academically, each of these schools are great for me. I want to be an english major with an emphasis in writing.

I worked with my pitching coach today and he knows the head coach at USF well. He said that he would make a phone call on my behalf tomorrow. I guess my biggest worry is that I am going to have to take a shot in the dark with walking on. I have to commit to a school by May 1st and probably no schools are going to be able to see me at that time. I'm just going to bust my butt and hope the coaches see that at the try-out.
My pitcher/nephew was visiting from Colo. and
talking to a friend of mine who also happens to be a pitching instructor ex.mlb player. My nephew was complaining about his INF.and his disappointment with them, about how his era would be much better if it weren't for the infield errors. Annoyed, my friend said,"So I guess you've never walked anyone before?!"
LessonBig Grinon't blame others.

As high profile as ASU is, I would say walking on there was Highly Unlikely, I know some VERY, VERY talented players from AZ that are playing club ball there because they didn't make the team.....probably your worst chance. Walking on any Pac 10 school , with 20-40K students to choose from is definatly going to be a challenge.
I personally think USF is you best chance. My son plays in the WCC and the schools are small, 3500-5000 undergrads and unless there is a specific policy against walk ons, you would probably have the best chance there.
