So... this could be the last year of conferences from what i guess i have read.  But for now I wanted to start the conversations about conference 19 since tryouts (feb 22) is not to far away.

For now the new conference consist of: 

Eastern View, Louisa, Courtland, Chancellor, King George, Caroline

Here are returning all conference players from the teams 

Louisa - John Reynolds-jr- P 6-1 56inn, 1.38 era 18bb, 25k, 3cg (1st team) and Jake Talley- Sr-SS- .386 avg 2-hr, 8-2b, 10bb, 9-sb (1st team)

Chancellor- OF- Nick Winston-Sr .386 avg, 2-3b, 9-2b, 7bb, 14-sb 12 rbi- (1st team), Mason Riser- 3b- Sr .409 avg, 2-3b, 5-3b, 12bb, 3 sb, 17rbi (1st team) Morgan-SS/DH- Jr .412avg, 11rbi, 2-3b, 3-2b, 10bb, 8-sb (1st team)  Cabrera- Sr- C, .(2nd team)

King George- Levere -Jr- P (2nd team) Halter - Sr- OF (2nd team), 

Courtland- N. Ciafa-Sr- SS (2nd team), D. Lann- Sr- C (2nd team)

Eastern View- Zach Plath-Sr-C .324 avg, 4-2b (1st team), L.Easter -Sr- OF (2nd team), also return All-American OF -David Laird from injury he is a Sr.

Caroline- ???

Should make for an interesting year- Last season I believe out of this group there were 2 teams that made it to regionals, Louisa and Eastern View.  Alot of these programs return alot of good players, but these were the ones that i could find were all conference of some sort. 

I also believe Courtland new/old coach and return most of its players, Eastern View is always in the mix a the top and have a solid returning core, Chancellor returns most of its top bats and arms, King George lost alot but return a decent core and Caroline returns some sticks from last years squad. 

I am  not sure at this moment who has college kids but any input would be great: I heard J. Talley-Louisa- Bridgewater, D. Laird- EV Radford, Z. Plath-EV WV Tech, L.Easter- EV Point Park (Pa), N. Winston- Chance-Averett I am sure there are others, is Riser going to play for his dad at Mary Wash?

What is everyones thoughts, I also heard all games are power points and regular season is nothing but collecting power points that determine seeds for the conf. tournament at the end of the year.

Heard Stowe left Chancellor and went to Spotsy is this true? 

And the conversation i had the other day said Caroline had at least one good pitcher named Carter, but that was also their opinion and all i have.  

I guess snow is topic for this next couple of days and how much and how long it stays on the ground. 

Coaching Wise is this correct?

Two major changes will highlight this big realignment, which will come just four seasons after the 2013 shift from three to six state-wide classifications:

Regions—the mid-level in postseason competition—will be changed again, from two per classification back to four. That’s how classifications existed under the old three-classification alignment (AAA, AA and A).

Conferences—the local level of play since 2013—seem to be scheduled for extinction, a unanimously welcome change.

“We support the elimination of conferences,” Eastern View AD Mark Settle said. “That vehicle is not working.”

CONFERENCE CLOSED

Under the previous, three-classification alignment, districts (the Commonwealth for most Stafford County schools, and the Battlefield for most Spotsylvania schools) denoted the local level of play. They set the biggest parameter for regular-season scheduling and postseason advancement.

Conferences were introduced with the 2013 realignment—along with much confusion among schools and across sports.

Although conferences became the vehicle to advance into region tournaments, districts still existed and governed a lot of regular-season activity.

“There were a ton of people even in this school who really didn’t understand what was going on [with conferences and districts],” Washington & Lee AD Malcolm Lewis said.

Stafford schools, for instance, had an easier transition. Except for the line between Conference 4 (6A schools) and Conference 15 (5A), the Commonwealth District remained mostly intact and the five county schools played each other throughout the year, then split into their respective conferences (along with Prince William County schools) for conference tournaments.

But Orange remained a part of the Jefferson District—centered around Albemarle—while playing in a conference filled with a mashup of other 5A schools.

So the Hornets played their regular season against traditional opponents such as Western Albemarle, Louisa and Monticello, but then competed for postseason slots with schools as far flung as Halifax and both 5A Patrick Henry High Schools—one in Roanoke, and one in Ashland.

Several ADs said they thought conferences—consisting of schools partnered by enrollment numbers—could work fine, and they knew from past experience that geographical districts worked, too. What didn’t work was the combination, with schools serving two masters at the local level.

“I’m in love with the idea of the same-size schools competing with each other,” King George AD Alex Fisher said. “I think that’s great. We’ve got no problem with six classifications.

“But it needed to be a commitment. As long as we were clinging to districts, too, I don’t think it was going to work.”

EVERYONE TO REGIONS

The biggest change which seems to be coming is an all-in approach to region play.

Schools will continue to play regular seasons in mostly geographically structured districts. But each classification will be divided into four regions, with every team (eight to 12 per region) advancing to the first round of a region tournament.

It would essentially eliminate district or conference play as a key factor in the postseason. A state quarterfinal game would return in most sports.

Under the current alignment—with two regions per classification—the top two region finishers advance to state semifinals. But with four regions per classification, each region can advance two teams, forming an eight-team state tournament.

Chancellor AD Rod Crooks, who coached volleyball for nearly three decades, voiced the most opposition to the new alignment, because it eliminates what has been an important goal for Virginia’s high school teams: advancing to region play.

“I’m not a ‘Give everyone a trophy’ kind of coach,” Crooks said. “‘Hoosiers’ is my favorite movie, with the small school going against the big teams. I’m not in to watering it down. I’m in to earning it when you get there.”

schedules? I checked in a couple of places and Louisa, Chancellor, King George or Caroline, none have a complete schedule that i can find, does anyone have it or know where to get it.

Chancellor over Northumberland in scrimmage 6-0.  Great pitching by Chancellor, some guy had radar gun on the pitchers, 2 from Chancellor were topping out at 86-87 range, first pitcher from Northumberland was 88 rest were in upper 70 range.  Chancellor had 3 triples and 1 home run , think they had around 10 total hits..  Northumberland only got 3 runners on base the entire game.  2 hits and 1 walk.  I think Chancellor had 1 error and Northumberland had 2 or 3.    Also went to Louisa over Fork Union 7-3, Louisa had good young pitcher, would say he was in the low 80's.  Louisa hit the ball well, especially the first 5 batters, think they had around 9 hits total.  Louisa definitely looks like a contender, strong pitching and hitting.  Both of these games were scrimmages, so it difficult to say, but both teams looked good with all the starters on the field.  Will try to get out to King George and Caroling scrimmages this week.

Zach Thomas was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Scott Bothum also had two hits and scored a run as the Cyclones opened with a darkness-shortened win against King George.

Alston Halter and Shane Revillo were both 2 for 4 for the Foxes. Halter scored twice and Revillo had an RBI double.

Article from Courtland Colonial Beach 

Courtland’s Josh Saathoff drove home pinch runner Jabari Allen with a single in the sixth inning to help the Cougars top Colonial Beach 3–2 in its season-opener on Tuesday.

Saathoff was 3-for-3 and also scored a run, and Trevor Ferares doubled with an RBI.

 

Kendrick Creasey, Connor Lutz, Mason Delane and Trey Bowler all had hits for Colonial Beach and Bowler had an RBI. The Drifters host James Monroe on Wednesday.

Courtland plays at Louisa on Friday.

Was at the Chancellor Game last night.  Thought it was the Riser kid pitching, but it wasnt.  Think the kid's name was Cabrera.  Not sure where they got him, dont recall him pitching last year, maybe a transfer.  ODU scout was there looking at pitcher from W&L.  Had the Cabrera kid gunned at 85, think he had  9 K's in 4 innings with no walks.   Chancellor hit the ball well, think they had atleast 2 doubles and 2 triples.  Game wasnt even as close as the score showed.  Chancellor coach pulled the Cabrera kid after the 4th and put in a young pitcher.  He gave up 3 runs in the 5th.  Shortstop for W&L had a good night, 2 for 2 with 2 doubles, think his name was Bell.  He pretty much was all the offense for W&L.   W&L struggled defensively and made a lot of errors, but still dont think they would have won if they played flawlessly.  Will try to get to Courtland VS Louisa game tonight if wife lets me out the house.

From what i understand conference tournament seeding is based on not conference record, but just wins and power points in general, so ultimately regular season conference games are same valued as non conference games. Each win is 7 points, each loss 0 points unless you lose to a 5A team you get 1 point, 6A team you get 2 points but each win is still 7. then you average it out based on how many games you play. So undefeated record your power point rating is 7 .

Tommy Haught and Josh Saathoff each had two doubles and two runs driven in to power the Cougars over the host Drifters in a nonconference game.

Trevor Ferares also drove in two runs and Brandon Haynes struck out six in going the distance for Courtland (2–1), which hosts Massaponax on Tuesday.

Colin Glenny’s two-RBI base hit in the sixth inning sparked a five-run rally that gave visiting Eastern View a win.

Luke Easter added a double for the Cyclones (2–0), who visit Albemarle today.

Mason Riser finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run, and Gordon Byrd was 2-for-4 with a run scored for Chancellor.

Whats going on with KG they played Essex 2 days ago and Brooke Point last night and no scores reported for either. 

Courtland game from last night

Nick Caiafa singles to lead off the seventh, then scored on a double down the left field line by Tommy Haught to give Courtland a walk-off 8–7 baseball will over visiting Massaponax on Friday.

Matt Henson had tied the score 7–7 in the sixth for the Cougars (3–1) with an inside-the-park homer.

 

Caiafa finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored, and Haught added a triple to his game-winning double for Courtland, which hosts Lou-isa today.

Travis Riley had two doubles, while Gavin Dzuerenda and Ryan Cloude supplied two hits each for the Panthers.

Liam Grubbs struck out 11 while scattering four hits and a walk in hurling a complete-game 2–0 shutout as Louisa earned the Conference 19 baseball victory at Courtland on Friday.

Cale Avee scored both Louisa runs and Aaron Szlankiewicz drove in one of Avee’s runs.

 

Dakota Lann had two hits for Courtland (3–2), which travels to Eastern View on April 5.

Zach Thomas was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and three RBIs, and Colin Glenny was also 3-for-4 adding two RBIs for visiting Eastern View.

Nate Smith finished 3-for-3 with two runs scores and two RBIs for the Cyclones (3–1), who play in a tournament in Greenville, S.C., starting Wednesday.

Matt Shuck and Hunter Elliot had two hits each for Culpeper.

Chancellor beat Loris, SC 9-4 

The Chancellor baseball team earned a 9–4 victory at the Mingo Bay Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on Thursday against the team from Loris, S.C., behind a strong starting pitching performance by Bryce Sheetz.

Nick Winston lead the Chargers with a double and 3 RBI’s, Tyler Fisher added a pair of RBI’s and Jon Olsberg scored two runs.

The win brings Chancellor’s record to 4–2 on the season and will play again in the tournament today with the opponent to be determined.
