Hanover 4, Lake Braddock 0.
Eric Mayers has a 3-run 2B in first inning, and Laine Denton hits a bomb in 5th; that's all Hanover needed as Jake Mayers strikes out 10 for the win.

West Springfield 10, Deep Run 5.
West Springfield has the bats working, jumping out to an early 5-0 lead and never looking back. Bobby Wahl goes the distance for WS.

Still waiting on word of the Menchville-Stafford game; it was delayed at game time (7pm) due to heavy storms in the Stafford area.
Bobby struggled a little early on but after the 4th he was very tough. Struck out 2 of last 3 in 7th I believe. WS played good defense. Bubba Self was particularly good turning a couple of double plays. Tobin's grand slam was straight away center was a game breaker. DR's lefty didn't have much tonight and was out in the first.
That was the situation that ended up with Cosby coming out flat on a Wed. last year and getting taken by Colonial Forge. Menchville will need to get themselves "up" for game time in order to avoid one of those sleepy games where they let it get away.

The other issue is, even if they win, it means one less day's rest for Carter if they should get to Saturday.
A couple of concerns: Short porch 340 to 350, however high fence; Hanover: fb hitting team; top 6 batters are excellent, especially the Mayer bros, Hanover averages during reg. season 12 runs pg, very aggressive on the bases; dbl steals, hit and runs; delayed steals, small ball; very well coached!
Good news, they pitched their no#1 last night, erb will pitch Friday; lives 83 to 85. Cox has to play excellent defense and hit with them. Cox's pitcher has to locate and keep them off-balance. Got to stay on top of the batters.

Take it from someone who's been watching baseball at Westfield for 5 years now -- that short porch means that balls will be flying outa that park this weekend. The high fence in CF keeps many balls hit there in the park, but left center and right center see a lot of balls heading over their standard-height fences, even during regular season and district games.

We'll have 4 teams (no matter who wins the Menchville-Stafford game, assuming they ever play it!) who each have a number of guys that can go yard in deeper parks; I'd expect the long ball to come into play in a big way in the three games this weekend, no matter who's pitching.

One more word of advice to all of you coming up our way this weekend -- get to the games early. Westfield is also hosting the AAA state softball and s****r championships this weekend, so parking will be at a premium (even though they have one of the two largest HS parking lots in NoVa...).

College venues with college distances (especially to power alleys and centerfield) are very different than most of the high schools, although Westfields dimensions are a novelty as a ballpark. It definitely favors hitters with no foul territory and the high wall in center turns would be outs in other parks into hits.

The VHSL likes this idea of AAA Jubilee. This way they get to get all of their administrators together in one spot, have their own organizational meetings, and and sample some of the s****r, some of the baseball, some of teh softball, lacrosse, etc as well.

It's not a bad idea, it's just different.

Westfield venues are first rate. Parking is no problem, as if the high school lot isn't big enough, the rec center has parking and there's plenty of office building parking within a short walk. Traffic coming in to DC will be fine as this is outer suburbs. Just cut over from 95 coming north prior to the Beltway and enter Chantilly via Route 28 or 29. Plenty of hotels and restaurants in the area, as well as Capital Expo Center (don't know what show is going on there this weekend), plus Smithsonian wing at Dulles all within 5 minute drive.

Sorry I wasn't around to see games at Plumeri. That would be wonderful. CNU was actually really very nice, though a lot of would-be HR's went for doubles there (or even for outs). The fences at Westfield play pretty fairly; it's short in CF but the fence is very tall.

For a HS game, it's nice to have customary HS distances. 380' to CF should be a HR in a HS game.
